Zoo Friends Baby Quilt & May Spring W.H.

Here are my 2 final finishes for May.  I needed a baby quilt done quickly.  Since I am in the midst of so many projects, I decided to quilt up a sweet panel.  I know it feels like cheating.  I didn't feel like free motion quilting around all the elements in the panel,  so I walking foot quilted in 3 different directions.  I used a light gray Omni thread on the top and bottom line silver on the back, which actually sinks into the fleece backing.  I used a cute green with polka dots print for the binding.  It measures 34 x 42.  It is sweet and makes me smile.

I also finished a kit from Shabby Fabrics.  It is the paper pieced project for May.  It was alot of smaller sections to join together, but the kit was very well organized making it easy.  They gave you plenty of fabric.  The fabric for the binding was very plentiful and I used some of it to insert a smaller accent border between the piece and the final border.

I took more time free motion quilting this one. Did not use any rulers, but just let the shapes dictate what I wanted to stitch in them.  I used 4 different colors of Glide threads.  It measures 12-1/2 x 28 .

RSC 2025 - January quilt finish

I saw an example of this quilt on internet somewhere.  loved the color combo.  When Angela of Soscrappy posted late December that January's color would be pink,  I quickly got started.  I made 4 scrappy squares pink blocks in December, just to get that jump start.

Well, now its only late May and this quilt is all finished and ready for gifting to someone who hopefully loves pinks.  It finished at 45 x 55.  I quilted it with a pink shade of Glide thread.  I used a fun free motion design that I learned from Angela Walters videos.  You can see it in the center block of this Log Cabin block at the 18:08 minute mark of this video  Quilting Designs for Log Cabin Blocks - Video 3 of the Free-motion Challenge Quilting Along   It looks great stitched in a rectangle shape.  I quilted it over each grouping of the 8 pink square units.  I quilted a long frame in the brown sashing strips around the blocks  and a swirl around the outer border.

The back of this quilt is a pretty plaid printed fleece.  Maybe you can see the flow of the quilting better from this side.  I seem to always go right to the back of the quilts first just to see the quilting.

That's it for me today.  I'm joining these lovely linky parties this week.  Please be sure to visit them to see what other creative quilters are sharing.

City Square - center section

City Square is the free summer quilt along offered by 4th and Main Designs.  You can find all the links here:       Summer Quilt-Along 2025 .

In order to set myself up for another quilt along which began this week,  I pushed myself to get the center section together, so now I am caught up until June 9th.  I had to take the photo indoors which did not  compliment the fabrics as well.    Here is my center 48 blocks .....

I avoid sewing flippy corners aka corner triangles which often come out wonky for me and those waste triangles are just another diversion..  So, I did a little Nancy Zieman time (she always said her life was built in samples) and I tested out a work-around method.

I love to cut my half square triangles with the gocutter as they come out perfect.  But there is no die for this snowball so of course, I did a test block, then I cut all my hst with the die and I trimmed off the corners of the snowball square with the easy angle ruler.  I needed 2-1/2" triangles, so I used some painters tape to mark the 2-1/2" to line up on the side and the black corner at the top.  These little pieces can be sewn to those cutaway triangles I get from joining binding ends.

Here are the hst units ready to sew to the pre-trimmed corners of the snowball.  They fit perfectly.

Pressed the corners out and here is the perfect 6-1/2" snowball block ready to stitch into your quilt.

That's it for me today.  I'm joining these lovely linky parties this week.  Please be sure to visit them to see what other creative quilters are sharing.

Baby Quilts Catch-Up

I have a few baby size quilts to share - approx 36" x 36".  These will be donated to childrenn's charities.  Actually, the last two are already donated.  This first one, I just finished the binding on this morning.

This first one is a quilt top that was donated by Cindy W. who follows our group Heartstrings.  I FMQ it in a diagonal grid using a straight ruler, Omni thread in cream color and a happy print fleece on the back.

This next one is an adorable cut of fabric donated by Bonnie A.  The fabric was so sweet, I added a couple narrow borders to bring it to 36", then quilted it with serpentine stitch on a diagonal grid and used that fun fleece print again on the back.

Here is a close-up of the fabric print.  It is so sweet !

Lastly, this little quilt was part of a challenge on Stashbusters a couple months ago.  The challenge was to use FQ.  I had a lonely set of 5 FQ in flannel and chose to make a small trip around the world design.  I free motion quilted an orange peel design on the diagonal. (I'm seeing a trend here)  I made the binding from leftover pieces of the FQ.

and here is the back, another cute printed fleece.  Fleece tends to create a drag when trying to free motion, but the kiddos love it,  so I persevere.

That's it for me today.  I'm joining these lovely linky parties this week.  Please be sure to visit them to see what other creative quilters are sharing.

Crimson Christmas - a design by Krista Moser

I recently spent some continuous time on my Crimson Christmas project.  The helpful videos that the designer shares in a private facebook group will be removed in October when she is ready to release the 2025 project QAL.  Her designs are always so over-the-top and unique,  making it hard to resist the challenge.  You can find the pattern  HERE  .  She also offers a fabric kit which eliminates the need for you to find all the right tones of batiks that blend nicely.

Crimson Christmas | Krista Moser

Here is my Crimson Christmas top, waiting for my quilting.  I already know how I will quilt it and that in itself is such a bonus !  I do wish it was slightly larger but I think adding a border would spoil the design.

Perkiomen Valley Blocks

I got a response from the coordinator for the donations for fire victims of LA County, CA and they are happily accepting blocks to further their community project. You can read about this mission here ....

Disaster Response Quilts

I was inclined to take on one more mission, so I headed to the scrap bins and gocutter dies and cut enough units for 40 blocks - ten (10) each of greens, purples, blues & light oranges.  Some of my quilter friends were gracious enough to help me assemble them into blocks and we got 30 blocks covered.  I have the batch of purples to sew yet.

I arranged some on the wall for a pic.  This would not have been my first choice for a block to make, but it is an interesting block once set into several options for a layout.
