A Quilters Cove in RSC - Pnks

The Rainbow Scrap Challenge at Soscrapy for April is pink.  Here is my rendition of my Quilters Cove cottage in pinks.  This block will be trimmed down to 6 x 12 whcn finished in the quilt top. Judging by the leaves on the tree,  it must be a VERY windy day in the Cove today.

I also re-awakened my love for paper piecing this week.  It takes so much longer to dig thru the scraps than to sew the blocks.  Here are my 4 paper pieced pink houses.  They will finish at 6 inches square.  I dont have a final plan for them yet, but there will be trees and more houses.

Andree at Quilting & Learning - What a Combo! is hosting A Quilters Cove linky party this week.  You can also visit previous posts by visiting  A Quilters Cove tab at the top of this page.

RSC for Pinks

I made this quilt top last year from a bag of flannels donated to me by a quilter friend who doesn't like to work with flannel.  Lucky for me,  I find no difference working with flannel.  There were all sorts of flannel prints in the bags, so I tried to group them into batches that might work together.

This is a version made from the pink family.  The areas that appear red in the photo is really a dark fuscia pink.  Pic was taken indoors and I am still not very skilled with photography.  I don't know if I used a pattern, a photo from the web or just worked with what I had.  It finished up at 30 x 35.

Here is the back - also assembled from pieces of flannel.

6 Quilts in 6 Weeks Challenge - Week 2

The 6 quilts in 6 weeks challenge is taking place on the Villa Rosa Design page on Facebook. You can find out about this challenge on this blog post Join the 6 Quilts in 6 Weeks Challenge Today!

Instead of whipping up a new quilt top, this week I went to the flimsy/ufo pile to unveil 3 Honey Bouquet tops and one very large The Lady top all made last year.  I started easy and prepared the Honey Bouquet child size top created from my scrap bin of blues.  I made 9 blocks, some are oriented 180 degrees and it finished at 45 x 54.  I quilted it on my very fancy domestic Janome.  I used a very dark navy solid fleece on the back, 80/20 batting and navy Glide thread top and bobbin.

Here is the Villa Rosa pattern that I used to make this quilt.  You can get your own copy here

RSC for April - Pinks Quillow Test

I have a somewhat failed attempt for an experiment sample.  I did this because I want to make some lovely quillows.  I gathered several videos and pics to explain the process.  Too many methods clog my brain and comfuse me; especially how the pillow is placed so it comes up right side out.

So I thought I would make a sample to keep for reference. I started with pink 4 inch fin squares.  I made a little quilt sandwich

Then I added the little pillow ( made 1 inch larger than 1/3 of the quilt width aka 5 inches ).  I placed it on the back, pocket wrong side up.  Then applied the binding.

Fold the long sides into the middle;  roll 1/3 of it 3 times; then invert the pocket to wrap around the folded quilt.  You guessed it...... there's no way I can wrap the pillow over the quilt.

Just because its pink and its April;  I'm linking up with these lovely parties this week.  Please be sure to visit them to see what other creative quilters are sharing.

6 Quilts in 6 Weeks Challenge - Week 1

Have you seen the new challenge instigated by Villa Rosa Designs?  Look at me getting myself into all this trouble trying to participate in all the challenges.  I can't bear to avoid them.  You can find out about this challenge on this post Join the 6 Quilts in 6 Weeks Challenge Today!  Won't you suffer along with me?

I was hard pressed to get this one done this week with so many errands and appointments in our schedule. Yesterday afternoon I devoted to making the top and today was quilting a binding.  I pulled some fat quarters which all had a space theme and added some yardage too.  It is very lively.  Ha.

I quilted in a cross hatch style to save time this week.  It finished at 35 x 45 and will be donated.

Here is the Villa Rosa pattern that I used to make this quilt.  You can get your own copy here Search: 2 results found for "cabin fever" – Villa Rosa Designs.  I love to get the digital copy because I get it right away but mostly because I can print it out enlarged on a full sheet which makes it easier for me to work from.

I'm sharing on the Villa Rosa Facebook page where you can see what other users of their patterns are sharing  and also at these lovely sites sharing their linky parties.

Placemat Challenge - 26-05

The monthly color challenge at Freemotion By The  River this month is green.  I dug deep into my green scrap bin and began casually sewing like-shapes together and didn't have a real plan.  Then it was time to make something from them.

I began in the center with the half square triangles.  They didn't inspire me much so I separated them with a thin strip; then framed around that.  I had to stripset pairs which I used to build up the width.  I really was thinking this one is so ugly;  then I added the light print top and bottom.  It has grown on me now  Sewing with your little scraps takes alot of time and makes alot of mess.

I pulled a couple leftover chunks from that bin to make the back too.  Don't look too closely at the free motion quilting.  I was trying to work with the Every Wave template by Amanda Murphy,  I might have done better if I made some registration lines or watched a video. I eventually scrapped the template and quilted widely spaced wiggly lines.

A Quilters Cove - Red Ranch House # 3

A Quilters Cove is meeting up again today.  You will find the link up with Andree over at Quilting & Learning, What a Combo.   Be sure to visit there to see our house quilt blocks and link up if you are inspired to do so.

This months RSC color for March is Red.  I looked thru my red scraps; wasn't very inspired, so I postponed my  creativity ..........  all month long it seems.  Then this past week I remembered.... I had 2 other scrap baskets of reds left from other projects which was stashed in another room.

After I toiled thru 6 appts this week and finished my easter wallhanging panel "Risen"; I set my mind to the March house block.  This block is a big 9" x 18".  My house quilt layout contains blocks of assorted sizes.  My applique is not very professional; so thankfully, this project is meant to have a touch of whimsy.

Along with Andree of  Quilting Learning Combo, I'm also joining these lovely linky parties this week.  Please be sure to visit them to see what other creative quilters are sharing.

2026 SAHRR - An Extra Round 7

The grand display for the 2026 Stay At Home Round Robin begins next Wednesday, March 25th.  The show will be held at Quilting Gail | A scrappy quilter and not a perfect quilter.

My 2026 SAHRR project went above and beyond or better said as 'overboard' when I added a round 7 to the plan for 2 reaons:  1) there was lots of the fabric collection remaining and 2) my round 6 made the top look unfinished.

So far this year, I've spent much of my wednesday mornings playing with options in EQ for this project.  I am not 100% satisfied with my version of round 7,  BUT  I've reached the point of needing to be finished with the brainwork over it.

So my flimsy now measures 69 x 77.  I ran out of background and used a different white on the outermost 2 inch border. This is another bright, happy quilt, like last year's version turned out to be also.

Heartstrings Donations: Val # 5 & Lil BH # 2

This first little baby quilt is a donation thru Heartstrings Group;  the top donated by Valerie of Maine and the backing from a quilter friend in Illinois.  I quilted with straight lines and binding to finish at 36 x 36.  It will go to The Hope Center which is a local organization supporting new-to-be mothers.

This lil bear hug quilt # 02 is  the result of a mission began last year also by the Heartstrings Group.  We make lil quilts to wrap up a stuffed critter to donate to organizations supporting children in need or times of crisis.  I am a bit behind my goal for this year, but hope to get caught up. Last year there were alot of little tops sent to a few of us by members to finish and donate for them.

On behalf of RSC color for March,  I made this one in reds. I started out making 4 patches from 3-1/2 inch leftover squares.  The back is also red with thin white hearts. This turned out 22 inches square.

I'm joining these lovely linky parties this week.  Please be sure to visit them to see what other creative quilters are sharing.

Open Spaces Challenge

This project is a free motion quilting challenge by Angela Walters from last year.  I bought the panel and added the extra border strips which was also printed as a panel.  The challenge was to expand your experience with large background or open spaces.  The videos are free.  You can get the supplies at

LG Negative Spaces Challenge Panel | Quilting Is My Therapy

So quilting large open spaces is not my area of excellence.  I seem to be mostly a block by block quilter. I am most comfortable letting shapes guide my quilting design.  I forced myself into each quilting session.  I wanted to make each area different, so I even did free motion designs that I had avoided in the past due to lack of confidence.

I am fine with how it turned out.  Actually, I'm not thrilled about the quilt colors or design of the panel, but wanted to experience the challenge.  Maybe it will appeal to the younger set?  Most of my quilts are made just for the joy of the process and are happily passed on when finished.

This quilt has very detailed stitching, so many close up photos were necessary.  I neglected to photo the back but it is a wide back of red, white & blue.  It finished at 64 x 74.

I'm joining these lovely linky parties this week.  Please be sure to visit them to see what other creative quilters are sharing.
