Week 6 - Villa Rosa Designs Challenge

This is week 6 of the 6 quilts in 6 weeks challenge with Villa Rosa Designs. Wowee!  I made it all the way through!  Villa Rosa announced the challenge  HERE  You can see all the quilts on their facebook page  HERE .

Here is my week 6 quilt.  I made it from scratch this week from the Discovery pattern, it wasn't a UFO.

I free motion and ruler quilted it with Glide lavender thread and Bottom Line gray thread in the bobbin.  It finished at 44 x 58 .  It has 80/20 batt and a pretty fleece on the back.

I'm sharing my week 6 quilt with Villa Rosa on their facebook page

More Granny Patch Blocks

I don't know why I am using lots of time makng these granny patch blocks except that I wanted to make more RSC color blocks and use some of those squares I cut from leftovers and stored for so long.  This photo was taken indoors, so the colors are really brighter than they appear.

I must confess my very first orange block was easy enough to do..... then as I kept making more blocks, I got them more confused each time.  It was really exhausting to keep re-setting it up or taking parts apart..  I think I need to make these from stripsets to keep my head on straight.

Anyway,  here is my labour for today - 2 red blocks and one pink.  I'm trying to fill up with the colors for past months.

and since the color for May is orange, I'll share some orange paper pieced houses I made this week.  They are so cute.  Last month I made 4 pink houses, so it seems I'm building another neighborhood. These houses finish at 6 inches each.

Villa Rosa Challenge - Week 5

Who knew I would get this surprise push to quilt up those tops I put together last year?  I thought they would languish on the hangers for a decade.  Then along came the Villa Rosa Designs challenge to finish 6 quilts in 6 weeks.  I have a weakness for taking on a self-challenge.

Originally, I thought I would be making these quilts from scratch until ..................  I remembered these tops.  Well I have made 3 new Villa Rosa patterns for this challenge,  but I also had 3 Honey Bouquet tops just waiting in the wings to be finished.

So,  for week 5 I quilted up this darling top made with the Honey Bouquet pattern.  It is all flannel pieces and the backing is also flannel.  I used a Pellon 80/20 batting and an Omni buttery yellow thread quilted with loopy loops for a fun and quick finish.  The binding is also flannel.

Here is the back .....

I'm sharing my finish on Villa Rosa Designs facebook page and also joining these lovely linky parties this week.  Please be sure to visit them to see what other creative quilters are sharing.

RSC Saturday - Granny Patch Blocks

I've been wanting to try out this block pattern for ages.  I recently watched a youtube video where this block was made and it's been on my mind ever since.  The video used rectangles for the background, then trimmed off all the excess to square up the block.  I didn't want the extra waste PLUS I had accuquilt dies to cut those outer units for me, with  less trimming waste.

These soft oranges look so pretty in the blocks.  I wish I had time to make more of them today.
