Cat Folk-2023 SAHRR--Rnd 1

I toiled over the prompt for Round one of our 2023 SAHRR which you'll find here

SAHRR2023 Prompt #1 - Spool Block – Home Sewn By Us

It is the spool block, not my favorite, but the joy in this annual challenge is to find your own creative way to make it work with the center block you have chosen.  Long sentence, eh?

Of course I played in EQ.  I imported a photo of my center block and began playing with ideas.  As the cat has a ribbon bow around her neck,  I decided to make my spool block into a bow.  I do wish I had chosen a lighter color background to help the bow show up better, but  not re-doing it at this stage.

and here she is .................

I've already decided that it won't be a miniature.  At this time, it measures 17-1/2 " by 19" with room for trimming, depending on next round's prompt.  I will make it a child size and hope I can make the colors appealing to that age group.

Now it's time to join the linky parties.  Be sure to visit them to see what other quilters are sharing too.

Borders and Pinwheels

Blue Feather Quilt Studio   designs and hosts quilt alongs using your Accuquilt dies.  My project evolved from her last quilt along called Borders and Pinwheels.  Her designs are always lovely and fun to participate in.  She is also on facebook.

This is my 'Borders and Pinwheels'  quilt.  It finished at 55 x 63.  It has cotton batting and backed with a heavy fleece.  I used the fleece just because it was the right size leftover and the right color.  Truthfully it was difficult to move around smoothly on my Janome sit down machine.    I started it in May 2022.

and here is the view from the back........ my favorite side.  I am mostly a block by block custom quilter, so it is quilted to death.  I used Glide threads on top and Bottom Line in the bobbin.

It begins today.  We are to link up with our center block.  I decided to dig into my stash of panels and a chose this folk art style cat panel.  It was made for a pillow, but I will make a wall hanging from it.  That means my rounds are going to need to be pretty small.

Here is my center block .................

My Fav Snowman

I'm quite excited to share this finished project because it is not my typical style of quilting.  It is whimsical and makes me smile and brightens up my porch too!

I made the appliques at church sew day last December.  Since I ordered a wooden display for winter to dress up the front porch,  I was encouraged to add this little hanging to complete the scene.

It measures 22 x 30.  I used fusible appliques and quilted the shapes down thru the 4 layers at the same time as quilting the background.  I used assorted Glide threads in colors to compliment the areas.

Q4K - first finish of 2023

I finished this quilt 4 kids quilt.  The pattern is free on Villa Rosa Designs.  It is called Picture Frame or Picture Window?  It finished at 42 x 51.

and here is the fleece backing.  It also has cotton batting and quilted with a pink Glide thread and Bottom line in the bobbin.

Here is my last finish of 2022.  I lost the photo on my camera and had to wait to get another taken after the camera got a batch of new batteries.  You might think its the same photo as the one above,  BUT  when I cut kits for kids quilts, I tend to cut 2 sets, in different colors.  I had so much of this lovely pink/orange flower print,  so I made another,  but swapped the positions of the green and yellow dot prints.  It is easiest to notice on the first inner border around the center.  I used the same fleece backing as in the one above.
