Cat Folk-2023 SAHRR--Rnd 1

I toiled over the prompt for Round one of our 2023 SAHRR which you'll find here

SAHRR2023 Prompt #1 - Spool Block – Home Sewn By Us

It is the spool block, not my favorite, but the joy in this annual challenge is to find your own creative way to make it work with the center block you have chosen.  Long sentence, eh?

Of course I played in EQ.  I imported a photo of my center block and began playing with ideas.  As the cat has a ribbon bow around her neck,  I decided to make my spool block into a bow.  I do wish I had chosen a lighter color background to help the bow show up better, but  not re-doing it at this stage.

and here she is .................

I've already decided that it won't be a miniature.  At this time, it measures 17-1/2 " by 19" with room for trimming, depending on next round's prompt.  I will make it a child size and hope I can make the colors appealing to that age group.

Now it's time to join the linky parties.  Be sure to visit them to see what other quilters are sharing too.

  3. Hi Kat! Love, love, LOVE this! What a clever way to incorporate the non-favorite block by most of the participants. It's amazing to me how many don't like this block, or have never made it, or BOTH. HAHA! You did a great job turning this into a ribbon/bow. Thanks so much for linking up and joining in. {{Hugs}} ~smile~ Roseanne

  9. The rules/guidelines are merely suggestions, in my opinion. The joy and excitement comes from our varied interpretations (stretching) of those rules. Very cute starting block. Love the cat. Keep on. I am sure it will be lovely and completely unique.

  11. Very clever and fun! I'm not a fan of spool blocks either, so I just made mine not look like spools. Looking forward to see what you do with the stars.
