Cat Folk-2023 SAHRR--Rnd 1

I toiled over the prompt for Round one of our 2023 SAHRR which you'll find here

SAHRR2023 Prompt #1 - Spool Block – Home Sewn By Us

It is the spool block, not my favorite, but the joy in this annual challenge is to find your own creative way to make it work with the center block you have chosen.  Long sentence, eh?

Of course I played in EQ.  I imported a photo of my center block and began playing with ideas.  As the cat has a ribbon bow around her neck,  I decided to make my spool block into a bow.  I do wish I had chosen a lighter color background to help the bow show up better, but  not re-doing it at this stage.

and here she is .................

I've already decided that it won't be a miniature.  At this time, it measures 17-1/2 " by 19" with room for trimming, depending on next round's prompt.  I will make it a child size and hope I can make the colors appealing to that age group.

Now it's time to join the linky parties.  Be sure to visit them to see what other quilters are sharing too.

  1. What a lovely and creative spool "bow" border really does match kitty's ribbon beautifully.. nice work hugs, Julierose

  2. This is such a great way to make the prompt work for you. Love it!

  3. Hi Kat! Love, love, LOVE this! What a clever way to incorporate the non-favorite block by most of the participants. It's amazing to me how many don't like this block, or have never made it, or BOTH. HAHA! You did a great job turning this into a ribbon/bow. Thanks so much for linking up and joining in. {{Hugs}} ~smile~ Roseanne

  4. Love Love Love how your spool became a bow!!! Very clever!!!

  5. Look who's thinking outside the block... Way to go, Kat!

  6. Now that is a very clever spin on a spool! I love it!

  7. What a great interpretation of the spool block!! Spools have never been a favorite of mine either but you knocked it out of the park!

  8. That is a great idea for making the spool block work for your project! Love your colors, too!

  9. The rules/guidelines are merely suggestions, in my opinion. The joy and excitement comes from our varied interpretations (stretching) of those rules. Very cute starting block. Love the cat. Keep on. I am sure it will be lovely and completely unique.

  10. What a clever way to incorporate the Spool block! Love it so far. Thanks for sharing on Wednesday Wait Loss.

  11. Very clever and fun! I'm not a fan of spool blocks either, so I just made mine not look like spools. Looking forward to see what you do with the stars.

  12. Love how you made the spool block as a bow ribbon, Kat. So cool!

  13. Genius idea, and it looks great.
