Orange Strippies - 3 & 4

I'm still in the orange.  I nearly have the 5th flimsy assembled this month. This 5th one is identical to # 4 . It turned out that the project needed 1-1/2 strips of 9 fabrics to make a quilt; so instead of cutting 2 strips, I might as well cut 3 strips to yield 2 quilts.  It was only slightly tricky because the quilt needed 11 cuts and I was cutting them at 5-1/2" which only gave me 7 crosscuts per strata.  I solved that by cutting one of the stratas at 5" which gave me that one extra cut and interspersed them in the two tops.  I don't notice a difference.  It did make the project 2" shorter in length, so I added a border strip to the top and bottom.

So here is Strippie #3 flimsy - my favorite pattern these days - a trip around the world.  I love to free motion quilt them with the orange peel shape, so simple and quick.  It measures 47 x 56 .

Here is Strippie # 4 ( #5, not shown here, is identical to #4 ).  I have forgotten where I first saw this design, but Stephanie from Stashbusters has made a few, and I figured mine out from her photo.  This one measures   46 x 58 .  My first paragraph today is all about this flimsy.

That's it for me.  I should not have cut up all those orange strips because now I have 5 more tops to quilt up.  These are all quilts 4 kids and I know they will love the orange and purple.

I'm joining these lovely linky parties this week.  Please be sure to visit them to see what other creative quilters are sharing.

  3. I love your orange and purple, too! My favorite one is the trip around the world. I'm curious how you construct that design, Kat. I've made a Trip Around the World, but the design didn't turn out like that. Do you make certain block layouts, or do you piece it in rows?

  5. Oh, I am so delighted to see someone stitching up two flimsies. I got started on a block and ended up with enough for two!! Still have a ton of strips & strings to go! Happy Stitching!

  6. Great idea to cut twice as much fabric at the same time to make two quilts. Hum, I wonder if I could keep organized if I gave that a try. Both quilts are cool. I might go for the Trip Around the World as I've made it before and it's pretty easy.
