Lil Bear Hug 26-01

The lil bear hug mission continues this year, initiated by Mary of Heartstrings aka Little Quilt Project – HeartStrings Quilt Project.

While continuing to work out of the blue scrap bin, I found some sets of potato chip shapes sewn into pairs.  I stitched them together for the center, then added leftover pieces to bring it to size - 19-1/2 by 21-1/2.   I did walking foot quilting in a diagonal grid using Omni mint green thread in the top and bobbin.  The backing and binding is also from scrap pieces.

I have been giving attention to several WIPs this week but needed to treat myself to a real finish, so the lil bear hug project is now started for another new year.

I'm joining these lovely linky parties this week.  Please be sure to visit them to see what other creative quilters are sharing.

2026 SAHRR - Center Block

So begins a new year of the Stay at Home Round Robin.  You can find all the new information about the sew along on Brenda's blog and Gail's Blog .

The following is an excerpt from Brenda's blog which outlines the program dates

SAHRR 2026 begins Wednesday, 1/14/26!! Check out Gail’s post about it HERE. Here is a schedule for when we will begin posting. Start thinking about your center block so you will be ready on January 14th. We’re going to have another fun year!

There will be one linky party each week. The person hosting for the week will host the party, but each cohost will also provide a link to that blog for you.

January 14:   Each of the co-leaders will be sharing their center blocks (you will have to visit each of their blogs to see them). Gail will host the first linky party on Wednesday, where you can share your center block.

January 21:  1st Round: Brenda @ Songbird Designs

January 28:  2nd Round: Kathleen @ Kathleen McMusing

February 4: 3rd Round: Emily @ The Darling Dogwood

March 25: Parade: showing all of your finished SAHRRs!

We have some wonderful sponsors again this year, so begin thinking about your center block and get it ready for the 14th!

===========================================================

It seems I am addicted to joining in this program every year.  I've loved all the quilts that were created from this process plus it's set up so you don't have time to put it aside to forget about it.  My biggest downfall has been that I make the quilts big!  There are ways around that.

I took advantage to use a half yard bundle from GE Quilt Designs.  This one is called Petals and Stitches by Andover Fabrics.  I am determined to include some appliques in my design this year.

Here is my center block.  It measures 16-1/2" unfinished.

I will be joining Gails linky party  HERE  and my favorite weekly parties .......

A Quilters Cove - January House- Blues

I finally settled on a layout for my Quilters Cove Housing Project.  That was important because the layout involved different size blocks and I have to work my pieces to fit .  Yes, lets make it complicated enough to be an interesting and new learning curve.

My blue house for January is ready.  I have some open background areas which I will fill in with shrubs and fences and whatnots.  I am using a blend of methods; shapes turned with interfacing and the smaller pieces get paper backed fusible.  This kind of creativity is not my strength, but I will forge ahead.  I can count on it having a whimsical flair.  I think I like my house, so far.

We are starting a quilt along for "A Quilters Cove" project aligned with Angela's color of the month you will find on  soscrappy.  The color for January is blue.  You have lots of time remaining this month to get started if you'd like to join us.

Initially, Cathy of  CRAZY BY DESIGN was willing to be a leader in this quilt along until some complicated health issues caused her to drop out of the leadership, for now.  I hope she will still get some ambition to take part when she is able.

I've also been contacted by Andree of   Quilting & Learning - What a Combo!.  She wants to take part in the quilt along with us and she has graciously offered to host a link -up  party at the end of each month, for us to share our housing accomplishments.  So be sure to follow Andree so you don't miss the posts.

I will continue to link my posts to the Quilters Cove page, in case we need to research back. If you would like any of your specific posts included; just send me an email or comment below and I will get it up on the page.

In the meantime, I'm joining these lovely linky parties this week.  Please be sure to visit them to see what other creative quilters are sharing.

Valerie's String Quilt # 3

A small finish for this week, one of Valerie Osborne's donated through Heartstrings tops now quilted and ready for donation to The Hope Center, a clinic for new-to-be mothers..  It finished at 37" square.  I quilted it in a continuous circle with a mint green Omni thread top and in the bobbin.  The backing is also from a donation given to me last year from a generous cyber friend.  What a blessing to be able to pass these gifts forward.  I have 2 more tops from Valerie now pin basted and ready to quilt on.

RSC26 - Honey Bouquet Blues

So it's the new year of Rainbow Scrap Challenge and everyone is anxious to dig into their blue scrap bins to create new projects.  I dived into my blue bin and found lots of large chunks that needed used so I chose the Honey Bouquet pattern by Villa Rosa Designs.  It is published as a 6 block baby size quilt.  I added 3 more blocks and turned them on their side to make a kiddo quilt 45 x 54.  This is just the flimsy.  Lots of machine quilting to do yet this year.
