This project is a free motion quilting challenge by Angela Walters from last year. I bought the panel and added the extra border strips which was also printed as a panel. The challenge was to expand your experience with large background or open spaces. The videos are free. You can get the supplies at
LG Negative Spaces Challenge Panel | Quilting Is My Therapy
So quilting large open spaces is not my area of excellence. I seem to be mostly a block by block quilter. I am most comfortable letting shapes guide my quilting design. I forced myself into each quilting session. I wanted to make each area different, so I even did free motion designs that I had avoided in the past due to lack of confidence.
I am fine with how it turned out. Actually, I'm not thrilled about the quilt colors or design of the panel, but wanted to experience the challenge. Maybe it will appeal to the younger set? Most of my quilts are made just for the joy of the process and are happily passed on when finished.
This quilt has very detailed stitching, so many close up photos were necessary. I neglected to photo the back but it is a wide back of red, white & blue. It finished at 64 x 74.

ReplyDeleteI think you did a wonderful job on this! I love Angela's FMQ challenges as they give you a chance to pick up new patterns or push your skills a bit forward. Shouldn;t be too hard to find someone to give this a good home and cherish the effort you put into it. I still have two I need to work on but have appreciated how past challenges led to finishing some quilts.
ReplyDeleteI am guessing this is on a domestic machine, not a long arm. And I admire your courage and tenacity to take on such a challenge. You did a great job and the patterns are so different and so pretty. Hooray for you!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely brilliant! Well done you on rising to the challenge! It's inspirational for sure.
