RSC16 Green Superscraps

Just catching up on my  scrap challenge projects, using green this month -  first up the scrappy bear paw.  I pulled the previous months blocks out of the box to get a together photo.  So many seams,  I'm still struggling to get the full 14-1/2 inch, there is usually 1/8 inch short in one direction..

Here is some Crayola togetherness and so fun to work on.............

Saved the best for last...............  my modified indian hatchet.  The rows are 84" long, so part of them hang over the  back of the board.

Since I had leftover time and leftover scraps today, I also made up 4 more scrappy churn dash blocks.  I don't know what it is about them that always makes me smile,  is it because they are so scrappy  or because they are churn dashes???   A very productive day, indeed.

Today I'm linking up with Angela of Soscrappy.

and Sunday linking up with Cynthia for Oh Scrap.

and Monday is sharing with Judy at Patchwork TImes.
Visit these sites to see what other quilters are making with their greens.

Baby Quilts

The initial plan was for 2 baby quilts...then I cut the strips wider than planned which made the two quilts too oblong.  So they are now 3.  I had fun playing with different quilting designs.  One has free form wavy lines, one has a circular starting in the center and one has vertical grids going in 4 directions.

This little one is for my 'soon to arrive' great nephew Liam.  It's backed with a blue fleece and has the circular quilting.

The other 2 little quilts are donations.  They are backed with white fleece.  Here is a photo of the back of one --just to show off my fun quilting.

Visit these sites to see what other creative quilters are linking up to share.....................

Have a wonderful weekend.  Thanks so much for stopping by.

Vintage Blooms - April blocks

The April blocks for my Vintage Bloom sampler are ready.  This time I didn't bring out all the other blocks to photo together.  My triangles aren't keeping their points as well as they did in the beginning either.  LOL  It must be my attitude --- these blocks are getting more tedious, but I'm still intent on the hand  embroidery.  Each month calls for 2 new blocks, I am duplicating one extra block each month so I will have a 30-block setting at the end of the year.

Once my May blocks are ready,  I will have reached the half-way point with this quilt top.  Phew.  If you don't want to make it with the traditional triangle piecing method, Gay has also provided a alternate version using the paper piecing method.  You can still get all the patterns for this project free at  http://sentimentalstitches.net/free-stuff/block-of-the-month-quilt-designs/vintage-blooms/.

More Oranges and some Churn Dashes

My 4th RSC16 project is the Crayons quilt.  Here is the batch so far, including orange.

I also worked on some scrappy churn dash blocks.  I now have a bakers dozen.  It's a start.  I am not fast with these blocks, picking sets of fabrics from the scrap bins, cutting the pieces and making up the block.  I don't mind doing a few at a time.   I would not want to spend the entire week working on them.   A few a week is fine with me.  To every day, churn,  churn,  churn .........   there is a season, churn, churn, churn,   lol

I'm joining these great linky parties.  Be sure to visit there to see what other quilters are creating today.

RSC16 - A Bushel of Oranges

I've been working on all my RSC projects with orange this week.  I want to be caught up as the remaining 2 weeks in April are full of other commitments.

Where do I start?  I already shared my bearpaws last week... visit  HERE  if you missed it.

Here is the first 4 months of my modified Indian Hatchet.  I love this quilt design with all the scrappy strips and the drama of the black and white.  I must keep this one for myself!  If a family member drools over it too,  I will make another one.  The columns are not sewn together.  I want to decide the color placement after all the rows are made.

Next up is the Column Sampler.  I wanted my quilt longer, so in January I added an extra 9" block. Now I'm compensating all my 6" block rows by making 13 blocks and adding 3" of spacer strips.

Here is the orange buzz saw blocks before they were sewn into a column.

and here are my columns (not sewn together)

I'm off to work on the orange crayon row, plus  I've added another project to my rainbow challenge this year .... churn dashes.  They're so adorable and always calling to me.

In the meantime,  I'm linking up with Angela at Soscrappy.  Visit there to see all the rainbow encouragement you can handle.  And on Sunday, I'll join the scrap party with Cynthia for Oh Scrap.

Thanks so much for stopping by!

RSC16 Oranges - Bearpaws

Just getting into my orange challenge.  Here is the bearpaw block in all it's glory.

I pulled the prior monthly bearpaw blocks out of their box to get a group photo.  The lighting wasn't right and so the photo is not very flattering.

That's the best I can do for today  and so I'm joining these great linky parties.  Visit there to see what other great quilters are creating today.

CCQ # 30 - Baby Bargello

My 2nd finish this week is this little quilt I call the Baby Bargello.  It was quick, slick & easy.  I must make more.  You will find the free pattern here; scroll down to  "KISS"  aka  Keep It Simply Strippie  http://sewpreetiquilts.blogspot.com/2016/02/craftsy-sweetens-up-my-life-blog-hop.html

It measures 41 x 49.  You could easily make it larger by adding more beginning strips  or borders.  I backed it with a soft green print fleece.

CCQ # 29 - 4 Patch Trip

I started this quilt top at our guild retreat last month.  It hung around here unfinished for a couple weeks.  Now trying to finish up loose ends of projects --- which could take all year.  I started with what was right in sight.

This little quilt measures 44 x 60.  I backed it with a light gray fleece and quilted with a soft, slightly curvy crosshatch lines.  Just finished the binding and it's ready for the washer.

Be sure to visit these great link - ups to see what other creative quilters are working on this week.

Vintage Blooms - Jan Feb Mar blocks

I'm caught up again on the vintage bloom blocks.  If you're interested in this project, you'll find a link to  Gay's free pattern in my left sidebar.  I've lost some points in this last set of blocks.  I have to turn my head and motor onward.   After all,  I'm  one -third  done with the blocks now, plus I have all the square parts to the remaining 21 blocks already cut out.

RSC16 Purples 2

Now a chance to share all my  purple accomplishments this month.   First up, is the butterfly row for the sampler quilt.  I didn't know where to put the yellow, so I put it in place of the white background. Since I lengthened the quilt by an extra 9" block, I made 13 butterflies and used a quarter inch spacer between each block to get the length I needed.  You can visit my  RSC16 Sampler page  to see all the rows together.

Next up is the crayon quilt.  This photo shows all 3 months together.  So far,  48" long before borders.

I think I already shared the purple bear paw block.   I missed getting a photo of the 3 bear paws together so will have to catch up with that pic next month.

Finally,  the modified indian hatchet block.  The blocks were so striking together, it kept nagging at   me to make it bed sized.  So this past week I made 6 more blocks in each color to bring the length to 84 inches.  That is 14 blocks per row.  Here is a photo showing a partial clip of the rows.  I may have to keep this one.  You can see the progression of these projects on my  RSC16 Scrapbusters  page.

I'm linking up with Angela at Soscrappy today  and Sunday afternoon, I will be linking up with Cynthia for Oh Scrap.  Be sure to visit these sites to see what other quilters are creating today.
