Bear Hugs 25-1

I have started a new mission project this year.  These are teddy bears with their own little quilted blanket.  It will be an on-going mission gifted to our church's local Miriams Closet which is an outlet serving foster children thru our local DCS and their 6 counties.

I first learned of this project through Mary Johnson of MaryQuilts.com. You can learn about it here at doll/bear quilts – MaryQuilts.com.

Yes, I have small surplus of blocks, scraps, batting, fleece for backing......  well maybe 'small' isn't realistic enough.  What a fun way to use some of it.  I know I need a break from those huge, detailed quilt-making projects with a bit of colorful and quick fun project now and then.  I ordered the teddy bears by the case online.   The bears are very soft and cuddly and cute. I hope to go thru this supply and need to purchase another.

I also follow along with the RSC monthly project.  Since Angela released the color for January as pink, I started playing in the pink and brown scraps for this little quilt.  You can find Angela over at soscrappy.

Okay,  on to the first bear hug of 2025 !

This blanket is 22 x 29.  I should mention, I quilting the entire piece with assorted free motion swirl designs as practice for Angela Walters swirl challenge.  So much going on !

Isn't he just the cutest little bear.

and here he is all bundled up and ready for a nap.

I'm joining these lovely linky parties this week.  Please be sure to visit them to see what other creative quilters are sharing.

  8. Very cute little bear and quilt. I also was inspired by Mary's doll quilts, and donated 12 quilts with dolls or stuffies to our local Sleep In Heavenly Peace in 2024. I have another little stack of doll quilt tops ready to quilt and bind for 2025. I'm hoping to do another 12 in 2025.
