RSC15 Sampler - a Fine Finish

This was a sampler project initiated by Angela of SoScrappy.  It is the Rainbow Scrap Challenge 2015 Sampler.  Everything except background is from the scrap bins.  She provided instructions for all the sampler blocks and the main Star block    HERE .

The project is made from 25 star sampler blocks  and 24  connector blocks.  I wanted a nice flow to finish  the design  edge,  so I imported the basic photo into EQ, then played around a bit..... okay, a lot.  I was so happy with the border finish and so inspired to get the quilt together.

These are 12" blocks.  This quilt finishes at 108" x 108".  I work on a DSM in a somewhat small space, and so, sadly, I took the easy road in quilting it.  It has Hobbs 80/20 batting and legacy muslin on the back.  A quilt this large is a huge stretch for me.  I persevered and am so happy it is a finish.

RSC16 Browns - Part 2

Today rounds up the remainder of my brown scraps.  I have so little browns left now.    Here is my adopted version of the indian hatchet block....Jan and Feb rows together.

and here is the crayon rows together............

both rows are 48 inches long.  If I decide to make the indian hatchet quilt longer, it is easy to add more blocks before the rows are sewn together.  It may become a bed quilt.

The remaining scraps were pieced into large crumb blocks - excess of 8".  They are intended for hot pads  AND  practice for easy FMQ.  I am a totally walking foot quilter, but I want to play a bit and it's okay when they'll be badly quilted.

I did a thorough job with the browns this month.  I wonder what color is on tap for March?  I'm linking up with Angela at Soscrappy  and on Sunday with Cynthia for Oh Scrap.  Please visit these sites to see what everyone else has done with their brown scraps.

CCQ #28 - Ladybug Wings

I had pieces leftover from my last project, Ladybugs.  I thought to design a baby quilt around the leftovers- strips from stripsets and a strip of the ladybug fabric.  I thought I was working along quite nicely,  went to bed last night with it all quilted, just waiting for the binding.  Saw it this morning and it was fright - full of orange.  The navy binding toned that down some, but not enough.  I sure hope it doesn't make some poor infant cross-eyed.  It measures 38 x 38.

I'm adding this to my CCQ page which is a collection of  my donation quilts.

CCQ # 27 - Ladybugs

I pulled out a lonely piece of ladybug fabric and told myself I could work it into a quilt.  It wasn't a very big piece, so I made some stripsets, subcut them, swapped and flipped the pieces and ended up with this.  I can't think of a catchy name, so I'm just calling it Ladybugs.  It measures  48 x 54.  I guess it falls into the toddler category. I will give it to my guild for donation.

I get to add this to my CCQ's  (Charity/Child Comfort Quilt)  page.

2 Baby Quilts - Finished

I've just finished these 2 baby qults.  The first one  is 40" square.  I thought rounded corners would work nicely on this quilt - not quite happy with it this time.

If you want to make up a quick baby quilt, you can download this file
with the cutting plan.

Sisters Choice Baby Quilt

This toddler quilt is 40 x 51.  It is a free pattern offered at Claudias Quilt Shop  HERE .  It was a fun design to work up.  I had to blend 2 fabrics for the binding to have enough.

16 Patch Pink Rails

I set out to make a baby quilt set.  My latest habit is to make a 40" square baby quilt for infant which can be used over car seats and carriers later and a larger, toddler side quilt for cuddling and using for a play mat.  I got the top pieced Monday.  Tuesday is for quilting.  I also have the 40" square top pieced and waiting for quilting.  Will show that later.

You can find the pattern here:  Obviously it is an easy one, sew fun.

RSC16 - Browns

The first pic shows my rows for the sampler quilt.  I made my blue row with 9 blocks, 81 inches. In keeping with the 81 inch length for the brown row, I made 13 - 6" blocks plus a half block.  I altered my block style slightly to accommodate the little pink corner squares.  I like how it looks.  I love the splash of adding the accent color.

I also got the brown bear paw block done.  Here is a pic of the first two blocks together.

I've been revamping some of my blog pages.  I'll be collecting photos for these projects there.

Nap in a Bag

Here is a worthy afternoon project -  a nap in a bag.  I needed a birthday present for a 3 year old for this saturday.  A piece of fleece and some pretty cotton made it all come together.  Actually, I made 2 sets.  I have one in reserve.  lol  I found the free project here: http://www.sew4home.com/projects/bed-linens/nap-bag-blanket-pillow-matching-bag.  This file is quite lengthy with detailed photos for instructions, so I typed up my own 'condensed' version which should make it quick work for the next set I make.
