Cat Folk - Grand Finale - 2023 SAHRR

I had a grand time custom quilting the Cat Folk quilt on my Janome sit-down machine.  I didn't pre-plan the quilting but addressed each element as I worked.  It has plenty of quilting, but I didn't QITD as I am prone to do.

You may recall, I initially began with the center block coming from a pillow panel.  I thought it wouldn't appeal to most folks, (I gift most of my quilts away) so I thought it would need to be a miniature to use as a wall hanging.  Well, silly me,  it grew to 74 x 86.

I used several Accuquilt dies to help me with design elements.  The stitching down of appliques took alot of time but I love how it turned out.

I used cotton batting and a cream So Fine thread, Aqua Glide thread and a light brown Omni thread. I neglected to get a photo of the back. I used a  wide  backing from Kansas Troubles by Moda. It is now patiently waiting for me to hand stitch the binding down.  I love the colors, all from stash,  I may keep it around for awhile.

Here are some close ups of quilting.  What a unique quilt.  I love the Stay at Home Round Robin process of designing!

Cat Folk - 2023 SAHRR - Round 6

I stuck it out on time for each week!  I do love this quilt, always happens when I create them using a Round Robin method.  I thought it needed to be a miniature size cuz no one would want it with this folk style cat block in the center or the colors.  Well these are some of my most favorite colors. It turned out to be an oversize lap quilt or even a twin size -  76 x 88 before quilting.  I will hang on to it for awhile before possibly gifting to a special person ( anyone who says they love it ).

I got carried away -  40 applique blocks in Round 5 had to be stitched down; then I went back and added 10 applique blocks to the centers of Round 3.  Not my usual forte but EQ got me into trouble here.

I am anxious to quilt it too.  I hope to pin baste it at our church sew day on Monday.  I have plans!  lol

Cat Folk - Round 5

This week is winding down Round 5 in the 2023 SAHRR (Stay at Home Round Robin).  This kind of challenge always makes my heart sing.  Sometimes, I get  REALLY  carried away,  as you'll see this week.

If you're wondering what the 2023 SAHRR is .......  you will find all the info at

Here is this weeks link up for Round 5   The Darling Dogwood

So unfortunately,  I spent all week working on Round 5, and its still not finished,  I need to stitch down the appliques on 2 sides, then sew them to the center.  My intended 'miniature' quilt now measures 60 x 72.  Okay, so it's kinda cute.  I really think someone is gonna like it. The majority of my quilts are gifted.  I just keep making them cuz the challenge makes me happy and I have some stash to use along with a couple of really nice Janome machines.  I feel blessed.

Round 5 ended up being  40 applique blocks on pointe.  Plus I added a touch of applique to Round 3.  Crazy woman,  I don't know how to keep anything simple.  Round 6 is definitely gonna corral it all in. I have a lovely mixed print fabric that works perfectly with the palette.  I hope I find a way to use it here.

If you're looking for Round 6 link up, you'll find it here beginning Monday..............

Cat Folk - Round 4 - 2023 SAHRR

If you're wondering what the 2023 SAHRR is .......  you will find all the info at

Announcing SAHRR 2023 | Quilting Gail

Week 4 link up is ................. here at Anja Quilts.    you have until Sunday to link up this week.

I struggled with my Round 4 today.  I had all the flying geese cut and ready for assembly.  My goal was to get this Round 4 finished today.  I have other deadlines to complete this upcoming week.

So at the end of Round 3, my top was 1/2 inch shy in each direction.  I made 46 flying geese to finish at 2 x 4 inches.  I added a 2 inch top strip to each border to make it a 4 inch finished round.  This brings my top to 48 x 60 inches now.  I struggled all afternoon to get the newly added borders to fit nicely on round 3.  I should have taken in larger seams on the new round but had my mind set to bring it to a proper 48 x 60.

Remember in the beginning I said it would have to be a miniature?   Ha,  best laid plans of mice and men.

I am liking this quilt anyway and I think it will find a nice home when its done.  These challenges always bring the best out of me.

I've been telling my friends that my Round 3 center measures 48 x 60.  Well,  that is what EQ told me, but it included the next round border shell also.  So next week it will become a true 48 x 60.

Round 3 measures 40 x 52

Cat Folk - Rnd 2 - 2023 SAHRR

I have finished Round 2 of our Stay at Home Round Robin with stars.  You will find all the links for this annual challenge  HERE  .   You will find all the intro information  HERE .

I spent too much time messing about in EQ to decide what to do with this round.  Oh so many options.  I went with the 9 inch  "Twin Star"  block.  I do wish I had gone with  a 6 inch round,  but not doing it again now.

It measures 36 inches square now.

Cat Folk-2023 SAHRR--Rnd 1

I toiled over the prompt for Round one of our 2023 SAHRR which you'll find here

SAHRR2023 Prompt #1 - Spool Block – Home Sewn By Us

It is the spool block, not my favorite, but the joy in this annual challenge is to find your own creative way to make it work with the center block you have chosen.  Long sentence, eh?

Of course I played in EQ.  I imported a photo of my center block and began playing with ideas.  As the cat has a ribbon bow around her neck,  I decided to make my spool block into a bow.  I do wish I had chosen a lighter color background to help the bow show up better, but  not re-doing it at this stage.

and here she is .................

I've already decided that it won't be a miniature.  At this time, it measures 17-1/2 " by 19" with room for trimming, depending on next round's prompt.  I will make it a child size and hope I can make the colors appealing to that age group.

Now it's time to join the linky parties.  Be sure to visit them to see what other quilters are sharing too.

Cat Folk - 2023 SAHRR

I am participating in the 2023 Stay At Home Round Robin (SAHRR).  You can read all about it here .......

Announcing SAHRR 2023 | Quilting Gail     and

here   SAHRR2023 Schedule and Details – Home Sewn By Us

It begins today.  We are to link up with our center block.  I decided to dig into my stash of panels and a chose this folk art style cat panel.  It was made for a pillow, but I will make a wall hanging from it.  That means my rounds are going to need to be pretty small.

Here is my center block .................
