Bear Hugs # 13,14,15,16,17,18

I've been finishing up these little quilts.  A few were made from orphan blocks and 4 were made from bricks, lots of little bricks into 3" rails.  I counted 94 rail fence blocks.  The first one gets a safari animal stuffie and the rest were small enough for the PBS Kids dolls.  They all have a printed fleece backing and were all free motion quilted in a variety of designs...... just because its fun.

Twin D9P Reds - RSC

I'm working on a twin size top for donation,  using reds to add to my rsc project collection.  I could only fit 16 blocks on the design wall,  there are 8 more blocks waiting in the wings.  When I get my cutting table cleared off,  I can start cutting them apart to re-assemble again.  There is also silver/gray and very dark navy in the center which will also be some sashing.

Bear Hugs # 11 & 12 !

I started very early today and got these 2 small sandwiches fancy quilted and bound.  I know the kiddos and the bears don't give a toot about the fancy quilting,  but it is the delightful time for my soul.

They each finished at 18 x 22 to fit this new batch of bears, which are 11 inches long but narrower than the first set of bears ordered.  I quilted with a pink Glide thread in the top and bobbin and ruler quilted with special templates.

This special mission project was initially inspired by Mary Johnson of Mary Quilts.  You can read more about it  HERE .

Bear Hug # 9 & 10

Now I'm torn whether to call my batch of stuffies wrapped in blankets as Bear Hugs or Care Bears.  What do you think??  ( due to overwhelming choice from some quilty friends, it shall remain "Bear Hugs")  Thanks to everyone for your input.

This is # 9.  I spent too much time quilting on it.  I would like to finish #10 by tomorrow to keep up with my goals.  In the meantime here is # 9 for this year ..........  this little blanket is made with the twist n stitch tool.  Such fun,  I want to make a bigger one now.  Please ignore the patch job I had to do on one petal due to mis-cutting.  This guy measures 23 x 27.

Here is the fleece print on the back.  So cuddley with batting and fleece.  I quilted it with yellow Glide thread.

Here is the little guy getting wrapped up in the blanket for gifting  ..

and now a revision to this post.  I did get bear hug # 10 finished this morning.  It was made from an orphan/test block from the 1-1/2" strip bin.  I birthed this one instead of binding..... probably won't be doing that again.

Here is the back and his stuffie is a PBS Kids.

Bear Hugs 7 & 8 and Starburst Center Baby Quilt

I've tried to have a productive week while working around appointments.  I started piecing my Crimson Christmas kit designed by Krista Moser.  You can get it  HERE .  I cut and pieced through steps 1-6 & 12.  She has helpful videos on a private group which she will close after one year....come October.

Since I have so many photos today, I kept them on the smaller size.  You can click on any photo to get a larger pic.

Then I moved on to donation projects.  These bear hugs # 7 & 8 came from the blue scrap bin which was still out from February's RSC.  I was going to put it away but there were several rail fence type sets sewn together for L/E.  I made a few more to complete the sets and made two bear hug quilts.

# 7 is made from 3" finished rails. finished at 17 x 20.  I paired it with a PBS Kids stuffie and free motion quilted a grid using rulers plus a little swirly in the tiny border.  The backing is an adorable fleece print of puppies.

# 8 is made from 4 " finished rails, has a royal blue fleece backing and free motion quilted in a grid using rulers.  This one finishes at 24 x 24 and is paired with an adorable large eyes stuffie donated to me by our dear friend, Dee in Nebraska.

Here is my third donation finish this week.  This is a topper donated by Cindy Weber of Indiana.  It measures 36 x 36 so it will go to the Foster Child Ministry in our area which serves 6 counties.  I also backed this one with that adorable puppy fleece and had great fun free motion quilting different designs in all the borders.  I had to give it a name and didnt know what that center block is called, so I penned it  "Starburst".

Sailing

I was picking on google for blue and yellow quilts and stumbled on a pic like this one and couldn't resist doing it.  It was a bit of work,  sewing all those 2 - 1/2 inch squares together, drawing the boats in EQ which I paper pieced.  Now it is a completed flimsy 47 x 55.  It covers my quilt of  the month for RSC.  The color for March is yellow.

I have tons of tops to quilt at this point, so don't know when I'll get this one quilted, but I'm aiming for this year!  In the meantime, I'm joining these lovely linky parties this week.  Be sure to visit them to see what other creative quilters are sharing.

Bear Hug # 6

It may not look like a lot was accomplished this week, but I do have several things in the works.  So, for today I can share little Bear Hug # 6.  I am still working with the recent RSC colors of blues and yellows.  I used the same print fabric on the back.  I fmq swirls and used a ruler for the straight line grid in the center.

and here he is all bundled up and ready for gifting ...........

Mod Flowers - a Q4K

This dear little quilt languished in the laundry basket for eons, aka a few years.  It began as a 3-yard quilt project from a free pattern  I got at Wood Valley Designs website.  I must have been experimenting with a new binding method because when I washed it,  the fabric frayed away from the binding.  Hence, the living under a laundry basket.

I finally decided to pull it out,  cut away the attached binding, a begin again.  It now has fresh binding and is ready for the 'quilts 4 kids' collection.  It now measures 42 x 48.

The backing is a soft fleece print.  I free motion quilted it with rulers and also played with other free-style designs.

SAHRR '25 - Round 6

When the specs for round 6 was released,  I spent my morning in EQ, playing with options for the new round.  It just made this quilt far too big. I already have several queen size tops to quilt and finish.  So I stayed with my first thought of using Round 6 for my corner blocks to round 5.  I love how it finished because my border on round 5 just looked to me like a finishing frame to this quilt.

I used the kite block times 4 for each corner.  I used an accuquilt die (thank you very much) to cut these pieces.  My biggest problem came where the 4 blocks join together in the center...too many points which needs a hammer to make it flat.  Each kite block only finishes at 3 inches making the 4-patch unit finish to 6 inches.

This is not a good photo.  DH could not hold up the entire top since it measures something like 72 x 78?  I hope to get a better photo this Sunday with help from others to hold it up.

Bear Hug # 5

More delightful little bear hug quilts to share this week.  For bear hug #5, I pulled some bricks, blues for RSC and yellow for an accent.  I sewed them as leader/enders while stitching on my SAHRR project.  I had to trim down parts of the bricks to make the blocks.  Then finishing up by cutting alternating squares from a piece of leftover wide backing. It is a nice soft blue print.  It measures 24 x 28.

The backing is another piece of that royal blue fleece.  I used 80/20 batting and quilted it with Glide threads using one of Natalia Bonners templates.

I also finished bear hug # 2 made last month using pink leftovers from the pink and brown flimsy.  I quilted it with very large swirls.  The backing is a red fleece. It measures 22 x 28.
