Quarter Log Cabins

I was gifted a layer cake of a collection of flowery prints.  I cut them into logs for a quarter log cabin block.  The layer cake yielded 96 blocks using 3 background units each from the stash.  I've been sewing them together the last few days.  Yesterday they were all sewn into (20) - 4 quadrant units. I have 16 blocks leftover....maybe part of a pillowcase?  When I'm making a bed size quilt, I try to assemble them into smaller segments as much as I can.

With the magic of EQ8, I imported a photo of my set and played with a few arrangements.  Here are my two favorites.  Now I can get my units assembled into a top.    Which version is your favorite?  AND if you can tell me how to get 2 photos to place side by side, that would also be very helpful.

Festive Tableset from Border fabric

I got this pretty border print fabric with hopes of coming up with a great plan.

Down to the wire now, so I came up with this arrangement. It measures 13 x 50.  I pulled the mint green and silver and black with white dots from my stash.  So fun when you have a stash that serves you just right.

The placemats were another challenge itself.  I resorted to EQ to help me fit the dimensions of the tree border strip into this partial seam block style and tell me the size for the center rectangle.  Here is a close up of one placemat and the four mats together.

I backed all the pieces with this mint green print.  Since the fabrics are so busy, I used a dark gray Omni thread and quilted in the ditch.

Tomorrow is Christmas Eve and I STILL have things to finish.  I got to do better next year!

Hidden Log Cabin After Christmas QAL

This quilt along is taking place on one of my favorite I.O. quilting groups .... Stashbusters.  We will work on this project together, using stash and putting our own spin on it.  This idea is a spin-off from a youtube video  by Moonkin Stitchery

(10806) Hidden Log Cabin | Jelly Roll Quilt Pattern | Layer Cake Quilt Pattern | Log Cabin Quilt Pattern - YouTube

Of course, I couldn't resist cutting fabric in preparation for the quilt along.  It took me 3 afternoons.  I cut from a layer cake for the prints and half yard cuts for the cream backgrounds.  I want to make a twin, so I need at least 80 blocks.  I prepped the entire layer cake which made for 96 blocks, so I will have extra.  The extra blocks could go on the back or into a topper.... so many options.  I used my stripology rulers for the strip cutting and cross cut units which was very efficient and little waste.

So this is all I have to share this week ....................

This is stacks of 8 each

These pieces are the background/light side
