Blocks, Blocks & More Blocks

I spent last week catching up on blocks for assorted projects.  This first set is Month 4 for London Calling, a BOM designed by Gudrun Erla of GEQuiltDesigns.com. The block on top represents the front entrance of a British Pub.  The lower blocks are lightning bolts significant from the Harry Potter series.  I am totally unawares to anything Harry Potter,

The Jelly Roll Club is a facebook group and website  .  Yvonne offers several free and very awesome projects.  This year began the Mystery Stars quilt along.  She also has a youtube video demonstrating how to make each block.  These are my stars to date.  Being slightly temperamental, I changed up a few designs.  Yvonne declares she is fine with that.  These are my January blocks .....  They are 12 inch and 6 inch blocks.

Lastly, 2024 3YD Quilt Series Sew Along - Material Girlfriends is challenging you to make a 3-yard quilt monthly.  They offer up a free pattern along with a few color options.  A new challenge is issued on the 15th.  January's pattern is "Alpha" . I have adjusted the pattern ever so slightly so I could make mine one column wider; omit one narrow border and stay within the fabric allotment.  I have 30 'Alpha' blocks waiting for assembly.

Phew!   It's time to get back to machine quilting. I'm joining these linky parties this week. Be sure to visit them to see what other creative quilters are sharing.

Q4K 24-1 - 16-patch green flimsy

I neglected keeping my scrap bins orderly last year.  I always follow RSC although I didn't find the time to participate last year.

January's color is green.  I did a thorough clean out of the green scrap bin. I cut pre-cut units where appropriate.  I also assessed the contents to decide what I could make from these leftovers.  I decided on the scrappy 16-patch.  Last week I made up 16 blocks, then decided to add a few more to make it a junior child quilt.

I had one lonely strip from a pooh bear which was added to lengthen at the top  It now has 20 blocks plus sashing.  The flimsy is waiting for a pin basting day.  It measures    43 x 56.

16 Patch Greens

The beginning of a new year..... the beginning  of the mindset that we can do everything.  Squirrels everywhere !!

I won't mention how many new goals are swirling around in my mind and my sewing room.  Today I'll start with the annual RSC challenge.  I follow it every year, I usually participate but last year I never got to it.

I also have a new goal to re-organize my tosser bins (scrap bins).  Doesn't it feel like you're accomplishing so much more when you can combine goals into one?  I am using this chore along with the RSC challenge this year.  I will let the tosser bins tell me what needs to be made from the leftovers so my project each month may be different.

As I dug into the green bin,  there wasnt much I liked anymore and they didnt seem to work very well together.  I decided I would make some 16-patch blocks and see where it led to. Since the strips are only 2 inches wide, it was easy to find another green to pair with.  Yesterday I made 18 blocks.

I'm also continuing my goal of making two (2) quilts for kids per month.  This month's challenge fits nicely into that goal.  I think I'll make 2 more 16-patch blocks, that gives me a 4 x 5 grid, add something different to top it off and a border or two.

Fall Foliage

This project was started last fall - 2023.  It is a quilt along with Krista Moser  of  The Quilted Life blog.

I had to set it aside to work on Christmas items and now it is waiting for some borders to finish it off.  I have pieced some borders from the leftovers but it's not quite enough background to go around the quilt, so have to figure out a new plan.

In the meantime ,  here is Fall Foliage.  It is a wonderful pattern and the templates that Krista created are so so helpful.

I am anxious to finish this off and get back to her templates.  I have 2 other great patterns to make using the templates.

In the meantime, I am happy to join these lovely linky parties.  Be sure to visit them to see what other creative quilters are sharing this week.
