Tuesday Archives #19 - Edges & English Paper Piecing

Yes, I do have an EPP project that is nagging at me all the time.  I call it the Queen of Diamonds -- queen size made up of lots of diamonds.  The hexagons have 1" sides.  I am running out of steam.  I did put some together into groups of four.  There was a color plan laid out on the board, but it has since gotten lost. Will have to do another plan when it reaches a larger stage of finish.  I have a wonderful border designed in my EQ.  I can only hope I will reach that stage.  I have just as many hexies prepared to assemble into diamonds.

You will find some older posts about this project  and  a couple tutorials for making the English Paper Piecing Diamonds here:   Queen of Diamonds

Tuesday Archives #18 - Easter & Echo Quilting

It's Tuesday Archives - time to re-visit an older classic. Today it's all about Easter and Echo Quilting.  I worked overtime at echo quilting this dresden wreath wallhanging. It is a favourite piece of mine.  Don't look too closely, I took the photo before I washed the marker out.  I was afraid it would wash out-of-shape, but it was quilted so dense that it didn't budge from the original shape at all.  It hangs over the mantle during the christmas season.

I'm linking up with Val's Quilting Studio for Tuesday Archives.  Hop on over there to see more classic posts of other quilters.

Tuesday Archives # 17 - Dogs & Dots

It's Tuesday Archives and all about dogs and dots.  I certainly have some special things to share about dogs today.  My very first blog post introduced my 'real-life shadow'.......... Kody.  He is now a 9 year old sheltie, always under foot and he has some control issues.  My sewing room is at the back of the house.  He loves to be outside but he must keep track of me, so whenever I'm in the sewing room, he can do both.

Kody

This year I commissioned an internet friend in Nebraska to make an applique of Kody.  She did it via this photo.  I gave her cart blanche as to size or design.  She loves detail and I knew it would be a wonderful piece.  It is also beautifully quilted.  I am glad it is wall hanging size. It is displayed in my dining area.  You can find the creator, Sarah Lynn  HERE .

Have a happy day and thanks so much for stopping by!

Tuesday Archives #13 - Color Wheels, Crafty Projects & Crazy Quilts

It's Tuesday Archives Day - #13, about color wheels, crafty projects and/or crazy quilts.  Since I dabble in other mediums like knitting, crochet and other stitcheries, I'll share some crafty projects.

I've practically given up most time spent with these other mediums, since quilting took over.  I mean quilting truly takes over ................. takes over your mind,  your money and every nook and cranny in your house!

crochet hat & scarf

elementary school book bags

                                     my favourite - greeting cards!

fleece scarves

purse tissue covers

Okay, so most of my stuff these days  is done with fabric of some sort.  I gave away a mountain of yarns to a nursing home several years ago.  Now I can't believe how expensive yarn is.  I refuse to buy it again.  But as I look back, my hobbies of crochet, knitting & needleworks took up ALOT  less room to store and ALOT less $$$.  !

I'm linking up with Val's Quilting Studio where you'll find lots more quilters sharing their projects.

Have yourself a happy day and thanks for stopping by.

Tuesday Archives #12 - Chevrons & Christmas Quilts

It's Tuesday Archives - the day to pull an old but worthy post off the shelf to share again.  This week the categories are chevrons and christmas quilts.

I came up with several qualifying posts for christmas and decided on this one written back in December of 2011.  It finishes with one of my favorite mini pieces, this Christmas Rose Wreath.

If you visit the  original post,  you will find a brief tutorial on how I used one of my favourite quideline rulers to my advantage when trimming up the borders.  You will also find this item as a free pattern  offered in two sizes.

and if you visit  this page  posted from March 2013, you can see the design in autumn fabrics.  I really enjoy making this pattern and will probably make it again.

Tuesday Archives #10 - Cats & Charities

It's Tuesday again. A time to skip down memory lane with a post from the archives.   Today it's all about cats and charities.  I love cats but nothing to show for it.  LOL  So I'll share posts about my local charities.

This post from July 2011 is all about pillowcase dresses for Haiti.  I made a personal goal to make 50 dresses.  There was not enough pillowcases donated, so I used fabrics from stash.  Well, you have to use it somewhere...  It was a daunting job because of all that bias I had to make!

The post is   HERE along with a
              picture of more dresses

I am also part of an annual school book bag project.  We make 450 bags every year for all 2nd graders in the county.  A quilter friend and I do most of the cutting and prep work of the straps ahead of time. Then we have a mission week at church with more helpers to sew them together.
Many hands make light work.

HERE  is the mission project.  You'll even find a pic of DH at the ironing board - he was showing off amongst all the ladies.  I've not caught him with an iron since.  LOL

Here I'll just share a few photos of quilts I've donated.  Most of them go to the children who are admitted to the local hospital. It is our Quilt Guild mission.  A few go for QOV.

I am blessed to have the opportunity to give my creations away to family, friends and charitable causes. It warms my heart.  I am linking up with Val's Quilting Studio where you can visit more quilters charing their cats and charity projects.

Tuesday Archives # 9 - Boys and BOM's

Tuesday Archives is a program where you dredge up an old post that was retired to the shelf, kind of like re-cycling a good thing.  This week is all about boys or block of months which are a WIP or Finished. Finished is a less common attribute in my home.

The lattice garden block of the month was offered a couple years ago as a free bom on jeanneraecrafts.  I worked it up in EQ, changed the alternate pieced block in the setting and set about collecting black and whites and white and blacks, and an awesome yellow for splash. I still have it on my 'must do' list.  I really want to make it, it's just that other projects keep pushing their way in.

Here are two blocks waiting for more flowers to join them.

I actually made two other blocks too. They were my first two blocks.  I discovered the flowers were placed incorrectly, so I had to make these two above.  The first two blocks will be put into a complimentary runner.  You can read all about this project in the original post  HERE  .

Tuesday Archives # 8 - Birthdays & Borders

It's Tuesday Archives Day -- the day we re-visit old posts.  This week it's birthdays and borders. I want to share my posts about the sofa quilt I made for DH.  He takes it with a short nap every day. It grew from a bucket list program that we take part in over at Cbees yahoo group.  Every month a different skill is drawn from a bucket and everyone does with it whatever they want to.  I used some of the skills and created a panel from those techniques.

This is the center panel.  It started with curved strippy borders, some applique would be added to the center later.  HERE  is the post which explains the process I used to make this panel.

After several months, this is the finished quilt.  I've learned that my favorite quilts are ones that didn't begin with a specific plan and decisions were made in stages.

Tuesday Archives #7 - Baskets & Bunnies

It's Tuesday again and time to fetch a vintage post off the shelf for recycling.  This week it's baskets & bunnies.  I can recall only one item I might have posted about baskets.  It's not really that old which is probably why I remember it.  LOL

I made this 12" basket block for the Scrap Scramble bom on the Carol Doak List.  I fussed over which fabrics to use and thought it came out really pretty.  It is paper pieced, one of my favorite techniques.

Tuesday Archives #6 - Bindings & Birds

Greetings.  I've done nothing on birds, but I can share a special tale on binding.  Have you ever disliked the effect of a binding color and removed it after the project had been totally finished?

This is the little quilt that got all the attention.................... the brightness of the binding just overpowered it for me.

and so I did unstitch it and replace with a green that would fade into the background. I'm not super crazy about this version either, but it was finished. I should have gone darker.  Are you as picky as me about the final effect of your bindings?

You can read that post from way back in November of 2012  HERE . I'm linking up with Val's Quilting Studio HERE where you will find lots of other great posts re-surfacing for sharing.

Tuesday Archives #5 - Backs & Batiks

Today is tuesday archives day - where we dredge (is it dredge or drudge?) up wonderful old posts sitting in the archives; viewed once, then put away on the shelf.  What a nifty idea in recycling.

The theme today is backs and batiks.  I do recall a nice post way back on July 02, 2011 where I shared the back of a string quilt I made.  You will find the post and more photos of the string quilt  HERE .

I don't work with batiks much, but I do have a special quilter friend who loves them.  I made her one of those adorable iron caddys from a piece of batik.  You can read about that project HERE.

Tuesday Archives - Babies & Barns

Tuesday Archives is a linky party to re-visit your old posts.  The theme this week is Babies and Barns.  I happen to have a post for each one.

I may have over-worked myself on the bibs project.  You can read about them here

I made a set of valances for my sewing room and a curtain for the adjacent laundry area from a wonderful panel of barns. This photo is of the curtain. You can read about that project here

Tuesday Archives - 'A' for Animal

Tuesday Archives linky party is the opportunity to re-visit old posts. It's like a new dress, you don't want to wear it once, then leave it forever hanging in the back of the closet.

This week's theme is 'A' for Animals and Awards. I don't have an award, but my DH received one 2 years ago.  We flew all the way to California for him to receive it at a banquet.  You can read about it here.

We also have an 'Animal' ...............  Kody is the beast of the house.  He has us well trained.  He is 9 years old now.  He is a Shetland Sheepdog (sheltie) and too smart for his britches.  It just so happens that my very first blog post was about him.  You can read it here.  and here he is..........

I'm linking up with Val's Quilting Studio for the Tuesday Archives linky party.  Hop on over there to discover lots of other interesting blog articles posted by more creative quilters.

Tuesday Archives - ' A ' Revisited

Today is Tuesday Archives over at Val's Quilting Studio.  It provides an opportunity to re-visit old posts - those creations that were special in their day.

Today is 'A' for applique.  Thankful for the search feature, I found several possibilities.  This delectable mountains table topper is actually on my table right now.  I added simple applique, which is my best kind.  My set also includes a table runner for the buffet.

This post  is accompanied with a sampling of delectable mountain design options, a truly fun block to work with.

So hop on over to Val's Quilting Studio where you'll find lots of other wonderful projects uncovered and  have yourself a happy creative day.
