Toddler Quilt

This little quilt will be gifted this Christmas.  I also picked up a cushy small baby doll and will make a matching doll quilt for it.  It seems I will do anything to avoid finishing my own projects.

Here is the back.  It is a pretty fleece.  I did lots of quilting on it.  I will call it  modern style quilting .... (doing what I want to) crosshatch diamond/rectangle shapes in the flower print areas and straight line quilting in the checkerboard area, a splash of serpentine.

I'm linking up with Connie at Freemotion by the River  and  Quilt Story  for  Tuesday Linky's.  Hop on over there to see what everyone else is creating today.

Finished up these jelly roll quilts for the quilt club charity missions.  Another member, Kathy B, stitched the tops together.  They are not very large and it was a fast and fun process.

CCQ # 11

This quilt top was sewn by a local lady, Rose Hughes.  She donated several tops to our quilt guild for charity missions.  I quilted this up and gave it back to the club this month.  It was log cabin strips framing two individual panel blocks.  I did simple quilting and finished it up in record time, for a change.

Scraphappy Saturday - Browns

I am a tad late for my RSC14 project.  Last month was browns - I have it to share today.  It has the 8 blocks to complete the segment for my RSC row quilt.

I am passing up the light blues this month.  I have 9 rows completed which I think will be enough for my plan this year.  I need to sew white strips between each row.  I have a wonderful scrappy border planned for it.  Isn't it amazing how many possible quilts are lying in our scrap bins?

I'm linking up with Angela at Soscrappy.  Her RSC14 project has inspired me all year.  It's so easy to play along and remain committed.  Thanks, Angela!

CCQ # 10 - QOV

It seems like I've had nothing to share for a long time.  The month of October was filled with many commitments, but I did make some time to sew.

A month or two ago, I took part in a quilt guild sew day.  The leader presented me with 20 orphan blocks and said "see what you can do with these".   LOL  Well, the blocks only trimmed up to 8 inch unfinished, so lots of creating around them was needed to bring the finished quilt up to size.  All the fabric parts for the top and most of the backing was provided from donations to the guild for the purpose of charity missions.

After lots of sewing,  and tons more quilting,  I finally presented it back to the guild yesterday.   It will be used for a local quilt of valor mission.  It turned out quite charming, if I do say so myself!  (grin)  I'm not usually in the photos because I'm the one taking the pictures.  Here is a rare instance where I get to smile with my quilt.

I put alot of effort into the quilting.  I quilt on a DSM and I do not possess coordination for smooth, free motion quilting.  I am happiest and most comfortable with linear grids, sometimes decorative stitches and my walking foot.

I always let the block units determine how I want to quilt it.  In this case, I stitched inside the blocks going in both directions, eyeballing the middle.  Have you noticed how practiced we are getting at 'eyeballing' ?  LOL  Then I SITD around the blocks and around the sashings.  The cream cornerstones were plain and boring, so I used one of my stitches and stitched the stars with red thread, using the motion we would do when we learned to hand draw a 5 point star in grade school.  I was tickled with that idea and like it so much better than just a star outline.

This is what just came off my design wall.  I am linking up with Judy at Patchwork Times  and Connie of Freemotion by the River for Linky Tuesday .....where you will find out what other creative quilters are working on.

Scrappy Orphan Blocks QOV

This is what's on my design wall today.  Lots of scrappy orphan blocks made with patriotic fabrics.  We had a quilt guild  charity sew day last Thursday.  I went in with other plans (g) but I was directed to this batch of 20 scrappy orphan blocks.  I've been making sashing and cornerstones to bring it up to  adult size and assembling the top.  This is it's unfinished stage today.  Forgive the dull photo, it is a dreary and rainy day today, not the best conditions for taking pictures.

Scrap Scramble - block #9 plus ....

I spent Monday making up this block.  It was  tedious work, and  I was glad to see it finished.   This completes the nine, 12 inch blocks needed for my Scrap Scramble quilt plan.

Carol Doak's block # 171

Then I moved on to the 36 units needed for the border.  Some of them  are displayed here.

You can see all the blocks made for this project on the Scrap Scramble page.

I think this completes all the units for the quilt top.  Now ready to plan the assembly and quilting.  Everything came out of the scrap bins except for the white background.  I wish I could say it made a dent.

Scrap Scramble - more blocks

This past week I was able to work on my scrap scramble bom project.  I got several blocks finished.....almost there.   These are the 12 inch blocks.  I took a different path from Carol's Scrap Scramble with my project.  I have a layout planned out in EQ - just waiting for the blocks to be finished.....one more 12 inch block and several border blocks to get done.  I am very happy that it is being made from the scrap bins.

July, 14 block

August, 14 block

The Disappearing Pinwheel

I've been in a QAL this weekend. The focus was to play with some disappearing block techniques.  I started out with the D4P with 4 colours.  I learned I would prefer that block in a 2 or 3 color set.

I moved on to the Disappearing Pinwheel.  What a great block.  I was working with a layer cake, so had to put 2 fabrics in each block.  There were several options for block layouts.  I decided on these two.  I only had enough to make 9 blocks.  I think I will add some sashing and borders to bring it up to adult lap size.  You will find a tutorial  HERE .

Scraphappy Saturday - Reds

First I sorted the pieces in my red scrap bin hoping they would tell me what they were best suited for.  I settled on the greek cross blocks for my row quilt.  They sure were a snap to do!

I still had a mountain of little red pieces covering the work table, so I began making my usual wonky log blocks and mini rail fence blocks.  When I quit sewing last evening, I had a very small collection finished

Friday, I picked it up again.  I made more wonky logs and more rails to make it seem worthwhile.

I got a little bored making string type blocks, so I thought these little scraps would make some nice santas for christmas cards.  I fussed too,  I put in some chenille fabric I made a few weeks ago, for the beard, sparkley black fabric for the belt, I will stitch some eyes and a tiny button for the top of the hat.  It should make a cute christmas card.  The first one, I trimmed wrong!  Don't you hate doing that?  That kind of cutting cannot be undone.  I made a second one, then concluded that it took up way too much time and way too little fabric.

So,  I went back to the log blocks.  I needed more and I needed a normal amount of rails.  I even tried making a batch of 3-1/2 inch wonkly logs, but kept getting carried away and ended up with more 6-1/2 inch blocks.

I'm finished working the reds for this month.  I've got to move on to a spiral tree skirt I've promised to someone as a barter for her LA a large quilt for me.  I wish I could say that my red bin was tamed down now, but that would be an untruth................. maybe next year.

I'm linking up with Angela at Soscrappy  for RSC14 Saturday.  Hop on over there to see what amazing things other quilters are making with their reds.
