SAHRR '25 - Round 6

When the specs for round 6 was released,  I spent my morning in EQ, playing with options for the new round.  It just made this quilt far too big. I already have several queen size tops to quilt and finish.  So I stayed with my first thought of using Round 6 for my corner blocks to round 5.  I love how it finished because my border on round 5 just looked to me like a finishing frame to this quilt.

I used the kite block times 4 for each corner.  I used an accuquilt die (thank you very much) to cut these pieces.  My biggest problem came where the 4 blocks join together in the center...too many points which needs a hammer to make it flat.  Each kite block only finishes at 3 inches making the 4-patch unit finish to 6 inches.

This is not a good photo.  DH could not hold up the entire top since it measures something like 72 x 78?  I hope to get a better photo this Sunday with help from others to hold it up.

I'm joining these lovely linky parties this week.  Please be sure to visit them to see what other creative quilters are sharing.

SAHRR '25 - Round 5

My quilt is getting larger than I wanted it to be.  I will have to make Round 6 to be very small.  Round 5 called for some form of half log cabin block design.  I play in EQ, you would have to in order to do the border you will see here.  Initially I began with assorted log cabin style blocks all around the quilt.  It was just more labor intensive than I was aiming for.

You gotta love how EQ can create over the top and still make it easy for you.  I started with a half log cabin block and popped them in assorted border styles.  Eventually I cut it way down to just 4 blocks each side.  My quilt right now is 70 x 78.  Then I had to re-draw them in the size I wanted because I wanted to eliminate the center seam and make them each one full block.  Figuring out the cutting dimensions was confusing trying to convert the two blocks into one, (eliminate seam allowance here; add one on there, etc).

So I re-drew these crazy blocks, there is a different size for the top/bottom border from the side borders.  I made my blocks yesterday and sewed them on the sides this morning.  I am not going to sew on the top/bottom blocks until I decide what I will do in the corners....trying to not grow it larger at this point.

Not the best photo, too cold to make DH stand outside and it is too large for him to hold it up properly by himself.

SAHRR '25 - Rnd 4

Every Monday morning I spend in EQ8 playing around with possible borders for the new round.  This time I settled on a pretty quickly.  Now I know there is a quicker, stripset method for making this block style, but I stayed with the plan to cut the fabric apart, insert a strip or two, re-assemble and trim to size.

I started with 4-1/2 inch squares plus the accent strip to be inserted:

Cut them apart to be re-assembled:

I decided to keep it simple and avoid doing angled cuts.  Here is my round 4 border.  I really like this round!  It's now up to 56 x 64.  Trying to not let it get much over 60 x 80.

I have  SO MANY  projects on the go because its the beginning of the year and a little birdie whispered in my ear that I could keep up.   Hmmm,  wonder who that birdie was?  He needs to fly south.

SAHRR '25 Round 2

I pressed onward to get round 2 done for this years Stay at Home Round Robin, so I could return to other projects waiting for attention.  I am really enjoying this colorful, bright project as this is not my typical palette.  The focus fabric helps me pull out all the colors to work in the new rounds.  Fun.

SAHRR 25 - Round 1

Uh oh.  I know I will confuse everyone.  I did change my center block ............ again!  I just couldn't work with those first two blocks, no contrast, just a mush of prints.  So here is my third and final version of the center block.

Round One was to use the Kings Cross block or any block whose name begins with the first letter of your own name.  Well, that is still a  ' K '  for me.  So I stayed with the Kings Cross block.  I didnt want to make a ton of those blocks, so put them as corner blocks.  Now I had all the rest of the border to fill in.  I carried thru with the geese and love the black with dots print.  So geese are traveling all around the center.  Lots of opportunity for borrowing color from the main print.  I hope it doesn't look too busy.

SAHRR 2025 Con't

Evidently I couldn't tolerate my first block.  I thought it was a good idea to choose a fabric that had a variety of colors to work from.  This happy fabric with the orange is just getting lost with my other choices.  On my second attempt, I eliminated the very dark busy print.  The yellow with rose color dots go so well with my main print.  Now my second attempt here,  there is an equal balance of fabrics,  but the yellow dots still overwhelm the block.  This block measures 16-1/2 " unfinished. I know when additional borders are added, it will calm the overall effect.

SAHRR 2025

I decided at the last minute again,  to join in the 2025 Stay at Home Round Robin.  You can read about it  here  Quilting Gail | A scrappy quilter and not a perfect quilter , join in the fun and don't forget to link up each week when you have progress.

I made my choice for the center block in a round about way; which is not necessarily a method for success.  First I pulled some bright, happy fabrics from the shelf.  I thought I could make them work together nicely.

Then I had to go lookin on my pinterest boards for some ideas to ignite the center block design.  I choose two ideas.  I started working with the first idea in EQ.  After much time lost, I reverted to the 2nd choice.  Still not sure this block works.  Always room for improvement here.

This is kind of a ' wild and crazy ' block so I'll refer to it as my Steve Martin classic.

So if you're ready to take part,  be sure to link up your center block  HERE.

Wishing you all a great week.  Thanks so much for stopping by.
