Lima Twin Quilt - finished

This quilt began in April with the 3Yd quilt challenge at Material Girlfriends (scroll down to April's post. I made this one scrappy and used yellow since it was the RSC color that month.  My cutting plan for scrappy took much too long, so I challenged myself to a smaller one that was actually cut from just 3 fabrics.  You can see it  HERE .

My yellow Lima is finally finished.  I quilted it with a yellow Glide thread, quilting an allover design of overlapping circles.......  so fun. It measures 60 x 82.  It's already been donated to our local Childrens Foster Closet.

I used a soft green print on the back. Bottom line gray was used in the bobbin.

3 yd Lima

So I got carried away with this block.   The monthly 3yd quilt pattern for this month is "Lima".  You will find it over at  2024 3YD Quilt Series Sew Along - Material Girlfriends.

The RSC color for April is yellow.  So, multi-task it , I made (24 )- 12 inch blocks cut from the yellow scrap bin. I will add a couple borders to bring it to a twin size for the foster child mission at church.  There should be enough yellow here to bring some sunshine to a child.

After spending an entire day cutting from scraps, I was intrigued to see how quickly it would be cut using strip piecing methods and just 3 fabrics and so this pink one is the result of that experiment.  This one is (20) 9-inch blocks. The dark burgandy print looks brown in the photo.

Everyone have a happy and productive week.  Thanks so much for stopping by.

Two Finishes

I shared these flimsys in recent weeks.  They are now machine quilted and bound.  I needed the basting pins for new sandwiching later this week which helps keep the cycle of starts and finishes moving along.

The Pooh Bear16-Patch was made as challenge to work from the green scrappy bin for RSC in January. I quilted it in a diagonal grid with Glide 40 wt. thread.  It measures 43 x 56.

It has an 80/20 batting and a nice gray fleece backing.

I couldn't resist quilting up this little Scrappy Love quilt since it is needed for a gift next month. It came about because the RSC color for February is red.  Didn't make much of a dent in that scrap bin, so hope to work from it some more this week.

I had a grand time quilting it with a pink Glide thread. I treated each shape, area or block independently; which is my typical way of quilting.  The feathers in the hearts dont show up well in the dark fabric. It measures 28 inches square which can be useful for a playmat or over the carseat.

It also has 80/20 batting and a nice soft knit type  print of pinks with a bit of silver fabric on the back. The quilting might show up better on the back.  An 80/20 batting makes a nice foundation for quilting.

Scrappy Love

Since I did such a thorough job with my bin of green scraps last month, I was hoping to carry the habit through this year.  I admit it is a time consuming process.  I have to choose their purpose by trimming to sizes , sort into strips or precuts of squares and triangles and decide what to make with them.

This little project came about because Angela called the RSC color for February 'Red' and I needed a special little baby quilt.  This quilt will only be 28 inch square but perfect for infant and/or tossing over a car seat or playmat.

It was inspired by a quilt posted HERE.  I changed up the piecing just a bit to eliminate a few seams. The background fabric is really a very pale pink. The photo was taken inside.  Maybe I'll get to quilting it up this week.

Q4K 24-1 - 16-patch green flimsy

I neglected keeping my scrap bins orderly last year.  I always follow RSC although I didn't find the time to participate last year.

January's color is green.  I did a thorough clean out of the green scrap bin. I cut pre-cut units where appropriate.  I also assessed the contents to decide what I could make from these leftovers.  I decided on the scrappy 16-patch.  Last week I made up 16 blocks, then decided to add a few more to make it a junior child quilt.

I had one lonely strip from a pooh bear which was added to lengthen at the top  It now has 20 blocks plus sashing.  The flimsy is waiting for a pin basting day.  It measures    43 x 56.

16 Patch Greens

The beginning of a new year..... the beginning  of the mindset that we can do everything.  Squirrels everywhere !!

I won't mention how many new goals are swirling around in my mind and my sewing room.  Today I'll start with the annual RSC challenge.  I follow it every year, I usually participate but last year I never got to it.

I also have a new goal to re-organize my tosser bins (scrap bins).  Doesn't it feel like you're accomplishing so much more when you can combine goals into one?  I am using this chore along with the RSC challenge this year.  I will let the tosser bins tell me what needs to be made from the leftovers so my project each month may be different.

As I dug into the green bin,  there wasnt much I liked anymore and they didnt seem to work very well together.  I decided I would make some 16-patch blocks and see where it led to. Since the strips are only 2 inches wide, it was easy to find another green to pair with.  Yesterday I made 18 blocks.

I'm also continuing my goal of making two (2) quilts for kids per month.  This month's challenge fits nicely into that goal.  I think I'll make 2 more 16-patch blocks, that gives me a 4 x 5 grid, add something different to top it off and a border or two.
