CCQ #23 - Log Cabin Orphans

This quilt was designed around a bundle of log cabin blocks donated to the quilt club.  When I go to their sew days, I am often given the challenge to do something with these donations.    I decided to offset the blocks with a very dark brown.  The quilt is 60 x 71".

and here is the back ...............................

You can see all the quilts I've made for donation on my CCQ page ..tab at the top.

RSC15 Sampler - Combo blocks

I am still working on the connecting blocks.   These are not a fast process with family gatherings going on this weekend.  I've found I had to take many of the blocks back to the pressing board and attack them with the steam iron.  I hate to do that, but my iron is useless when set on heat only.  I've tried to be careful with the steam iron and handling.

Here is a quarter sample on the design board.  I may not get it finished before the year is over, but I hope the top will be done.  Funny how you can see the design flow so much better in a photo, than while it is in front of you.  No blocks sewn together yet .............

You can see all my blocks for this project together on my RSC15 Sampler page,  Just click on the tab at the top.

RSC15 Sampler - Mint Green

Finally,  Blocks 24 & 25 - light greens.  You'll find I cheated on the sampler center on one of them.

I've moved on to the alternating blocks now.  All the color pieces are cut.  Yesterday, I assembled 2 of them............... so pretty.  I will be spending the next few days stitching up the remaining 22.  You can visit my RSC15 Challenge page to see all my blocks for this project.  I want to be all caught up and ready for the 2016 challenge.  The new ideas are surmounting!

Winter Trees

I admired this little wall hanging from a photo on the net.  It stuck in my mind.  I thought it would be a lovely piece to display during the winter season.  It measures 15" x 33" and finished  up in 2 days.

Embroidered Christmas Wreath

I have a great finish to report.  It's not a large piece, 25 x 25",  but certainly used up alot of hand stitching time.  The center piece was  pre-printed and intended for quilting.  I wanted to embroider it with color.  I started it a few years ago, then it went into the closet for awhile.

Whenever you have a clear out, you uncover forgotten projects.  I have rekindled my hand stitching phase and try to do it every evening.  I started by finishing the stitching on this piece.   Then it sat  again, waiting for an appropriate border.   I used Sulky 12 wt  thread and 3-strand embroidery floss.

Then it sat  again, waiting for an appropriate border.  I put another border on it, it just didn't work.  I took that border off, and chose this one.  I like it.

I'm linking up with Kelly at My Quilt Infatuation.  Hop on over there to see what other delightful projects are being created.
