Snowman table mats

I just finished these pretty little mats.  They measure about 16 inches across.  Binding 60 degree mitres for the hexagon shape is a nuisance on small items.

I used the gocutter dies for the half circles, eyes, carrot nose and snowflake.  I winged it for the background shape to work on.  Actually I sized a hexagon template in EQ, printed it out, folded the printout in half and folded my fabric strip in half.  Then  I used a ruler to cut the side angles following the paper template.  Thank goodness for tools of the trade!

They're not gifted yet.  I'm waiting for someone to mention that they like them.  LOL

In the meantime, I'm joining these fun linky parties.  Be sure to visit them to see what other creative quilters are sharing this week.

Christmas table runners & mats

I've been spending time making some tablerunners for the Christmas season.  I have 3 finished, 2 adorable octagon topperss waiting to be quilted and a few more ideas printed and waiting to be done.  They are very time consuming considering their smaller size.

I bought this pattern at a quilt show in July.  I plan to make a few more of this style, with other elements replacing the trees.  The pattern is by Doghouse Designs.

This pattern is from Vicki's Crafts aka  knitbug2 .  I used soft batting for the beards to give it some texture.

I re-created this runner from an online photo.  It is a bit bold. I would like it better if the background fabric was more subtle.

Now I've changed course and working on quilted hot pads and story books.

I'm joining these linky parties this week.  Be sure to visit them to see what other creative quilters are sharing.

Scrappy X's and O's -

I've spent the last few days trying to re-sort my scrap bins & baskets into constructive projects.  I have a bit more control now and the work table has a usable surface again.

I have been cutting my leftover bits into usable pre-cut pieces; whatever size I could get from each piece.  One of the sizes was a basket of 2-1/2 inch squares  and a basket of 2-1/2 inch half square triangles.  Then I came across this photo on the internet showing a way to use all these scrappy pieces, and no background was necessary.  It was a great solution.  I love the definitive lines of light and dark.

'Y2K Blocks 4'
***Update:  this site showed up in my feed and must be where I first got the idea for this scrappy arrangement:   WIP Wednesday: All Y2K Wedding Rings Blocks Are Finished! (quiltpiecer.blogspot.com) *** ;  give credit where credit is due   (11-18-2021)

So today I planned to just sew up the pairs, so I could store the basket; then work on something else needed soon for the upcoming holidays.  Turns out,  I kept sewing these units until I had them worked as far as they would stretch.  There are some hst still in the bin,  but they are dark shades.  I'll need to accumulate some light ones to pair them up.

Anyway,  I spent all my sewing time today, sewing these units up and turning them into blocks.  I have  8 blocks  done so far !  Each block is not too attractive up close,  but when you put them all together,  from a distance,  I think they look marvelous !!!  8 blocks doesn't sound like alot , but since each block has 25 units,  that makes for 200 units used today.
Someone said this block was called X's and O's,  so I'll call it that, for now.

Puppy Parade - SAHRR

I made good progress on one of my SAHRR ( stay at home round/row robin ) projects this week.  I picked an interesting layout and transformed the row descriptions and panel blocks into this quilt I call Puppy Parade.  The photo is taken indoors, so the fabrics are much more vibrant than it appears.  Now it waits for pin basting and quilting.  It is so bright and colorful and makes me smile.

It measures 67 x 75,  a very large lap size.  I used a Kona white in the background and a colorful fat quarter collection for the piecing.

Scrappy 9-Patch Single Irish Chain

This quilt is finished in honor of Marianne Urban,  our dear stashbuster friend and giver of many good strategies, advice and intentions.  Marianne challenged the stashbuster group to an Irish Chain Challenge ( ICC ) .   Stashbusters is always offering up a challenge of some sort to help us toss our current projects aside and dig in with some new inspiration.

The ICC challenge was for 2018;  I began pre-cutting the scrappy squares in late 2017.  The top was assembled ??? probably 2018, then it hung on a hanger in the laundry room until  this month!  I spent several afternoons quilting on it by sectioning off areas with stitching,  then playing with designs in the open areas.  It was not all pre-planned, but decided as I worked a section along.  It was an open playground for me this time.

The blocks are 9 inches finished and the quilt measures 63 x 81.  I also used scrappy binding.  It has Hobbs 80/20 batting and stitched with Glide thread on top and Bottom Line in the bobbin.

Okay,  here is the quilt .......................

SAHRowRobin

I was inspired into making the round/row robin projects.  The Stay At Home Round Robin was first started  here .............  SAHRR … pronounced “stay at home round robin.” | Quilting Gail.

One of my quilting groups is doing this project now.  Some of us are doing the round robin style and some are doing a row robin style.  A few of us are doing one of each.

I have been spending alot of sewing time on my row robin.  I loved the detail in this dog panel and wanted to use it for myself as a sofa quilt.  I also paired it with a colorful fat quarter collection called JotDot by Blank Quilting.  I smile every time I look at these dog poses.  Here is my WIP so far.....

9 Patchalong 2.0

Well, now it's done!  This was the 2nd  - 9 patchalong  hosted by Natalia Bonner of Piece and Quilt.com.  Natalia demonstrated a different ruler quilting design in each 9 patch block plus 9 bonus blocks.  It's always so much fun to stitch along.

You will find all the info about this quiltalong here at

you can watch the video instruction starting here ....

In the meantime,  here is my second  9 Patchalong quilt.  It measures  47 x 57    It is quilted to death but I used so fine thread on top and bottom line thread in the bobbin so it still maintains a soft cuddly feel.

Here is a photo of the lovely soft fleece backing.

I might as well share some close up photos of the 9 patches..................

RSC21 Oranges

I spent Friday piecing this table runner with autumn fabrics.  I thought it would be a quick project but admit I am a slow quilter.  I got it sandwiched and began quilting it.  Hope to share a finished photo tomorrow.  This design was inspired by the Nox Tablerunner  by Connie Kresin at Freemotion By The River.

I wanted it longer than her pattern and added some extra units.  I do like it so if no family loves it,  I will use it myself.

Here is this photo rotated .........................  It measures 15 x 48 .

Hoping I can update this post tomorrow with a photo of this runner all quilted and bound.

Now it IS tomorrow and I have finished quilting this runner.  Still difficult to get a good photo of the quilting.  I used Military Gold Glide thread,  quilting orange peels in the squares and straight lines in the sashing and border.  The binding matched perfectly but I still wish I had made a difference choice.  I love these colors !  The border fabric is so pretty,  I also put it on the back, in case I wanted to use that side sometimes.

3 Yard Quilt Series 21-4

I finished this quilt.  I struggled to get a nice photo that would showcase all the fancy quilting I did on it.  It measures 52 x 70.  It is a 3 - Yard quilt design by Fabric Cafe.

The back has a lovely tan speckled print by Kansas Troubles.  I am doing alot of autumn colors and this extra wide fabric makes some lovely backs.
