Lil Bear Hug Quilts
Another busy week on my schedule meant I could only finish 3 lil bear hug quilts. I also concentrated on the Tossed Leaves autumn panel, adding several borders and now I am in the early stages of doing all the free motion quilting on it.
Back to the Lil Bear Hugs ............
This first top was donated by Karen O'Neil. I used a puppy print fleece on the back and quilted it with a diagonal crosshatch.

Dawn Qui & Kong plus One Bear Hug
I could not resist this donkey panel and immediately ordered it and quilted it up so I could hang on the wall. It makes me smile every time. I added a border strip top and bottom, mainly so I would have a hidden seam line to sew on the hanging sleeve by machine. It has a bit of a wave on the sides. Not sure what I did to make it hang like that. It finished at 35 x 44.
I just wanted quilting to show but not the thread, so I used Superior Threads gray Microquilter 100 wt. on top. My Janome QP 18 loved it. Why did I come up with such a strange name? The only thing that came to mind was Donkey Kong and I needed 2 names, so I guess they are Qui (pronounced 'key' in french) and kong. Good think I live in the city limits as I just love those little miniature donkeys but havent a clue how to care for them.
I also restored a neighbor's 35 year old baby quilt so they could use it for first granddaughter in family. It originally belonged to the mother of the new to arrive baby and she kept it all these years. I won't display a photo of it but it was taken apart, replaced with 80/20 batting, new binding and a bridging stitch over the seams to reinforce the tender old fabrics. the back is/was a flannel.
Finally this week, I used a serpentine stitch with a buttery yellow Omni thread on this 24 inch bear hug quilt. The pale yellow thread blends in all the colors so well. The top was donated by Kathy Nyman. I put a darling plaid on the back and a red binding, reminiscent of the 1930's feel. This will be donated to one of our local community service departments ( police, fire, childrens services) .

City Square - a queen top
I've been stitching along with the City Square free quilt along offered by Scott of 4th and Main Designs. You will find all the links HERE .
I did add a couple extra rounds to finish at 92 x 104. I used some gorgeous fabrics - all the taupes were from a Color Club collection at GEQuilt Designs, the gorgeous teal I had in my stash, searched for more but it must be old and vanished. Also used a darker brown for trims and backgrounds of a printed batik and some fairy frost. It is just lovely. I won't be quilting it right away as my mind is wandering to autumn and Christmas projects.
