Tree of Life - March blocks

Time to share the March blocks for the tree of life stitch along before I forget again.  My set of blocks are missing the bottom triangle blocks because I didnt have the re-sized triangle pattern at the time I made these.  Denise has since made the file of triangle blocks for me,  resized to fit the 3 inch finished blocks  I am making.  I will share those along with April blocks next month.   Thanks again Denise.

Tumbler # 21-1 Silver & Multi

This tumbler quilt was started last year, a challenge posted at Heartstrings and/or Stashbusters.  I cut from the scrap bins with the 4 inch tumbler die.  I used a silver print for the alternate blocks; sewed them all together and then it hung nicely on a hanger for a few months.  I like it when viewing from a distance,  but up close, it just looks all silver.

It finishes at 50 x 70.  I quilted 1/2 inch from the seams.  it went very smoothly.

I used cotton batting and a thick light gray fleece on the back.  I especially like the look of allover quilting the echo lines created when looking at the back.

March Table Runner Challenge

I really love this table mat.  It measures 17 inches across.  The center is a printed block from the Apricot & Ash fabric panel.  I have some fabric that complimented it so well;  the greens were perfect.  I will be gifting this one too; unless the recipient doesnt like it, then she is welcome to return it, no questions asked!  LOL

Here is a photo of the back, simply  to enjoy the quilting. It is a light beige batik.

Diamonds QAL - a finish

This quilt along is a free project from Amanda Murphy designs.  It began last October 2020.   You can find instructions   HERE  .  Scroll down to find links to all the parts.

It was a great project to work on.  I love it when someone directs me in what quilting designs to use and where to put them.  I made my project a bit larger than directed in the pattern; added more borders;  It finished at  74 x 82.  I used a high loft poly to showcase the quilting; however I do find that type of batting makes it harder to push the quilt around under the needle and the fabric doesn't cling to the batt or pin baste as securely.  I quilt on a Janome Quiltmaker Pro Versa  sit down, a truly lovely machine.

This photo was taken outside, when we had snow,  and before the binding was stitched down.

This photo was taken  in church today ; all finished. The bottom border isnt really wavy, I just didn't straighten it out; cuz others were waiting to get seated.

Here is a close-up of the backing fabric.  It is a wide backing from Connecting Threads.  The colors and pattern blend with so many tops.  I love it.

RSC21 - Greens

I am posting this because it is March's RSC project,  5 scrappy quarter log cabin blocks evidently with my ugly-est  greens.  I may be making them again, in a prettier version; but not today.

Pitter Patter Q4K 21-2

This was a truly fun pattern to make.  You can find the pattern at GE Quilt Designs.Com.

I did not make it QAYG style and I adjusted the sizing a bit .  (grin).  It measures 40 x 52.  I free motion quilted it in an afternoon on my sit down.  It is so bright and happy. I will definitely be making more of these.

The backing is a lovely blue flannel with little red and yellow flowers.  I wanted to keep it appropriate for both boys and girls, but the flannel matched so perfectly, I used it anyway.  I wish I wasnt so segregated in what is wanted for boys or girls.

Tree of Life - February blocks

Here are my February blocks.  Maybe next month I will have the design board cleaned off so I can lay out some of these blocks.  My set may look a bit different as I opted out of making pinwheels. These blocks are only 3 inch finished,  so wanted to keep it simple.

RSC20 - some blocks for last years' projects

I'm working on those scrappy blocks needed for last year's unfinished projects.  They are so time consuming for me.  Guess I am a slow worker, which would be fine if perfection was the result.  These are 12 inch finished blocks.  Photo taken inside; the colors are prettier than displayed here.

February Tablemats

The necessary color at my house this month was lavender.  I did not have any in stash, so needed to pick up a few pieces.  I've been working with it all week,  as want to use it all up while it's all over my worktables.

I decided to play with wedges.  This project was an experiment.  I cut up a bunch of wedges, then decided what to do with them.   I  dressed it up with a bit of applique and free motion quilted a different design in each color wedge.  I did alot of quilting on it because I used a lot of batting trimmings for each and wanted them well secured.

I made a set of 6 placemats,  2 were made after I took this photo.  The backing is a silver blend of batik.

Quilt 4 Kids - aqua, purple & yellow

It was time I finished a UFO.  This one is a quilt 4 kids quilt that was cut as a kit back in 2019, or maybe 2018.  I've lost track.  Anyway,  I quilted it up last year  and left it for  binding.  Now the binding is on, done by machine top and bottom.  I've grown accustomed to the quicker way all by machine, tho I do still sew the bed size quilt bindings down by hand.

44 x 54

and here is the back,  a soft pretty fleece print; there is also a nice cotton frankenbatt in the middle layer

RSC21 Yellow

I spent the afternoon  digging in the scrap bins for yellows for February's  RSC color of the month.

Here is my 5 blocks plus 2 crumb blocks.  I try to restrain myself to only one RSC project this year  UNTIL  all the previous years blocks turn into quilts.  There are several,  maybe as many as 10 .

January's Tablemat

I began this challenge without a specific plan.  I went to the stash shelves and pulled out a pretty print, not alot of it so I thought to use it up and pull some fabrics that compliment.  Due to indoor lighting, it may look a tad harsh with the burgandy and bronze metallic.

So I made 4 placemats 14 x 19 ( one is hanging on design wall).  See next months' challenge fabric peeking in the upper right corner.

I like to do alot of quilting these days, so I did orange peels in the printed squares and some geometric designs in the open areas.

RSC 2021 - Pinks

I showed restraint in choosing patterns for my RSC 2021 projects -----  only  ONE  , so far !!  I have some baskets of scrappy strips, 1-1/2" and 1" trimmed.  Hoping to use these up and empty baskets is why I chose this log cabin style block for my project.  I have to give credit to Cynthia of   Oh Scrap for shining the light on this block for me.

So I have a partial layout plan in EQ, subject to change at any time.  Here are my 5 pink log cabin style blocks  and did some leader/ender style stitching with these pink crumb blocks, which will be the center of some other block designs in the future.

Tree of Life - December blocks

I'm still pluggin away at this project - only 7 paper pieced blocks per month.  I am doing miniature 3 inch finished blocks.  My biggest challenge seems to be remembering which fabrics are for what on the color chart.  Seems to be confusing every month.  I made a few notes which i hope will get me thru.

Here are my December blocks ..........

RSC 2020 - August, Sept, Oct

I've been busy sewing, cutting, sewing, and lots more cutting.  I  had 3 new RSC projects for 2020,  they have joined the unfinished groups of RSC projects from 2019,, 2018 and maybe ??????

While cutting, I did cut for one of my 2020 projects, I call this block a double pinwheel.  It might more properly be termed as a friendship pinwheel.  At any rate,  I was doing 3 blocks in each color, for a 30 block quilt.  I will have to doodle in EQ to see if I want a narrow sashing between the blocks or not.  Either way,  they make a nice alternate pattern too.
