Autumn Pumpkins

I made an autumn tablerunner and wall banner last week, finished the binding this morning.  This project was 100%  inspired by Vicki of   knitbug2 .   Thank you, Vicki,  for showcasing your creative ideas to help motivate our journey.  You can also visit her Etsy shop  for lovely seasonal patterns

I made this banner design into a tablerunner by placing a banner on each end and a center block to separate the two.  It finished at 12" x 64".  The appliques are top stitched down and FMQ in the piecing.

I used a pretty print by Kansas Troubles for the backing,  cotton batt & gold Glide thread for the stitching,

Here is the banner finishing at 12" x 26 " .

Royal Floral - 21-5 - a 3-yard quilt

This quilt began by pulling a print fabric from stash that I wanted to use up;  pull 2 other fabrics to compliment the print................. then hunt for a pattern.  I chose this pattern called Pink Picture Frame.

WoodValleyDesigns  for Pink Picture Frame pattern

and   Free Patterns (woodvalleydesigns.com) for a large selection of free patterns.

I added an extra border to use up the fabric , so my quilt finished at  53 x 62; a lovely throw size for a sofa.  I quilted it with navy glide thread  and gold glide thread on top.  Each round was quilted with a different design to vary the fun a bit.  This is part of the 3-Yard quilts challenge started by Mary Johnson of Heartstrings.  You will also find her  many wonderful free patterns here in the right sidebar:

MaryQuilts.com

I guess I am not very good with a camera.  The light color in the photo is really a lovely tan/gold fabric which should look nicer than it does here.

Hope Quilt

This is a design by Gudrun Erla of GEQuiltDesigns.com.  She offered this pattern for a minimal fee for a quilt along last year.  The monies raised were given to local chairities in her area during the pandemic.

It had been sandwiched for awhile  and recently I quilted it on my Janome sit-down.  I used a special westalee template and quilted the honeycomb design in the blocks  and straight line grid in the sashing and outer border.  I used gray Glide thread on top and gray bottom line in the bobbin.  It turned out nice and soft flowing.

Here is the full quilt.  It finished at 62 x 82.  I used a layer cake for the blocks.

Tree of Life Miniature - flimsy

I can't believe I've reached the end of this monthly project.   Since my project is a miniature with 3 inch blocks (the original at  For The Love Of Geese   is full size blocks ), there is alot of small seams.  I do not have any quilting ideas for it at this time.  I hate when that happens.!  I've reached out to Denise for quilting suggestions.  I'm sure she will have some creative ideas to share.

So  here is my Tree of Life flimsy.  A  quick measurement is 35 inches.  I had some issues with identifying fabric colors in the chart provided...  blaming some of that on their technical names and some on looking through a computer monitor.  All in all,  I am very happy with the results.  When finished, I think it will take its turn hanging over my mantle.

Thank you, Denise,  for leading us on with this project.  I'm sure there are still other quilters working on their blocks.  I'm gladly joining these linky parties this week.  Be sure to visit them to see what other creative  quilters are sharing.

July's Candle Mat

In keeping up (almost) with the monthly tablescraps runner challenge with Joy at The Joyful Quilter, I rummaged thru my box/s of autumn fabrics and pulled 3 for a quick table mat.  I'm not thrilled with the result which should be a lesson that it doesn't pay to hurry quilting creativity.

In any event,  here is my fall candle mat.  It measures 14 inches across.  I used a 60 degree ruler to cut the wedges.  I  quilted it with Glide gold thread (my fav) and used a single fold binding.

I will gift it to someone and if they don't like the front,  they can always use the back side.....

I'm joining the linky party with Joy this weekend.  You can see all the lovely challenge tablescraps runners all this weekend  at  The Joyful Quilter .

Tree of Life - June blocks

We are nearing the end of piecing this project.  One more month to go, then time to assemble, assemble, assemble.  I am making it in miniature.  What better reason to paper piece than to make a miniature?  This fine project is the creation of  Denise from  For the Love of Geese  site.

And so here are my June blocks.  They don't look so exciting all alone, do they?

August is just around the corner and will soon bring the reveal.  See you soon.

4 Stars Baby Quilt

This is a Judy Martin pattern called  Star Cluster.  The only link I could find to its instruction was a direct pdf through google, so I thought it best not to provide a direct link here.  But you can find it.

This quilt finished at 45 x 45.  I designed my own border treatment.  I'm really pleased with it.  The backing is a fleece which wouldnt move around nicely on my quilting table,  so I used the DSM with a walking foot.

and here is the back ...............

Ohio Star Series 21-2

K.I.S.S. .....  Keep It Simple Silly !!!   A theory I constantly forget !  This is my 2nd project in the Ohio Star Series Challenge.  It is the center only,  45 x 63.  I have a couple of complimenting borders planned for it before it's finished.  Yesterday, A quilting buddy helped me  tremendously with the layout.  I love it.  I was trying to make it balance and blend, but getting confused along the way.

I am calling this project  "Autumn Splendor".  Most of the fabrics have flecks of gold (my favorite) in it and it sparkles.  The applique blocks are cut by accuquilt dies, fused and top stitched.  In fact, the entire top was cut by accuquilt.  It was so fun.  When I quilt this project,  I will use a poly batting and ditch around the shapes so they puff nicely.

Ohio Star Series 21-1 Patriotic

I am double-dipping my project challenges this week.  I am in a monthly table runner challenge.

I am also in a 'Series'  challenge on the Stashbusters group.  I chose 2 challenges to focus on this year  -- one is designs using the  'chisel'  shape  and the other is  the Ohio Star series.  I will work with the Ohio Star Series first,  hoping to keep sane.

So this is my table scraps challenge for the month of May -  a patriotic table runner.  I must confess I got the inspiration from  this site   A Summer Runner and Sew Sampler 2021 | Cluck Cluck Sew .

I got carried away with the quilting  -- quilted 8-point stars  in every square with a large one over the ohio star .  A quick quilting of waves in the striped areas.  It finished at 18" x 54" ; a large tablerunner  or to hang on a door.

This weekend   I'm linking up with Joy of  The Joyful Quilter for her Table Scraps Monthly challenge; Angela of Soscrappy  and Cynthia for Oh Scrap .

Quilts 4 Kids - 21-3

I gave up creating a name for every quilt.  When there are several quilts in the same category, I just give it a category name, the year and number in that series; i.e. quilts 4 kids 21-3.  This quilt was made from a kit I cut in late winter of 2019 or 2018.?  I've lost track now.

21-3  Rail fence is red, pink and yellow rails and measures 45 x 56.  It is free motion quilted with scallop flowers.  Angela Walters calls it the Flower Meander

(2772) Machine Quilting the Flower Meander & Variations | Free-motion Challenge Quilting Along with Angela - YouTube

I backed it with a peach and gray fleece.  It also has a thin cotton batting between the layers.

3 Yard Quilts Challenge

Mary Johnson of  the  Heartstrings group sparked everyone's interest with a 3 Yard Quilt Challenge.  They are quick and easy and you can't stop at just one.  Our challenge mission will run through June.

You can explore more about the 3 Yard Quilts with it's originator, Donna Robertson  over at Fabric Cafe.   Donna also has a you.tube channel where she demonstrates her patterns and fabric bundles every Tuesday and Thursday.

Here are my first 3 - 3 yard quilts so far.  I have another flimsy made, which is not quilted yet.

3 Yard 21-1  Monkeys

backing ......

3 Yard 21-2 - Beach Balls

Back

3 Yard 21-3 Teddy Bears

Back

These all measure  42 x 56 and are backed with a fleece print.  It was a struggle free motion quilting on the sit down machine.  I fmq the first two but the fleece seemed to drag on the table surface.  The 3rd quilt was quilted with the walking foot on my Janome.

Tablerunner Challenge - April

Where did April go ?   Life is just whizzing by, so musn't blink or you'll miss it.

Here is my tablerunner for April.  It is made with  a pretty print of  lavender, purple and cream.  I quilted  it with custom quilting in the stars and an old fashioned scallop in the border.  The design just  evolved from  " I LOVE  the Ohio Star" pattern plus I had partial stripsets leftover from the set of placemats.

Here is a close-up

Here is the set of placemats
