Go Blue Banner

So I was born and grew up in Michigan and my DH adult children are also Michigan fans.  His oldest son had a season pass to the Univ of Mich football games for 30 years which he drove there from Indiana for each home game.  When I saw this fabric panel advertised at Fat Quarter Shop, I knew I had to make it for him.

I have to confess I did not enjoy quilting it ... it was merely stitching around each of the elements.  I used Glide threads, navy in the dark areas and yellow in the gold areas.  I use a sit down Janome 18".  I always keep the ruler foot on for ruler and fmq quilting, but this time I thought I'd change to the open foot.  Then in my little toolbox I found the special foot that is so small, it lets you see everything.  I forgot I bought it as hadn't used it yet.  So, this seemed like the perfect time to try it out.

Well, I found I was always straying off the intended path.  The edge of the foot created a shadow? and my needle would be too far to the right,, so I tried to watch the needle, but my eye kept straying to the edge of the foot.  I'm sure I need more practice with it.

It's hard to see the quilting as I used matching color threads.  It measures 43 x 35.

I've now started quilting on the Merry Christmas panels by Angela Walters of Quilting is my Therapy.com.  Although I'm not using rulers on the Christmas panels either, I jumped back to the ruler foot and all is well again.

I'm joining these lovely linky parties this week.  Please be sure to visit them to see what other creative quilters are sharing.

  1. Isn't that going to be fun for a Michigan fan?! Using matching thread was probably good for this project, and now you know all about the new foot, too. I bet he will love this quilt!

  2. He'll be thrilled to receive this. I saw these panels on FQS, but they only have the "big" time universities. Although I've thought about ordering the Virginia Tech one for my cousin's son who is a student there.

  3. Perfect gift for a U of M fan! He's going to LOVE it! I think you'll love the new foot once you get used to it--meanwhile you have your trusty ruler foot. Thanks for sharing on my weekly show and tell, Wednesday Wait Loss.
