Curved Borders Applique Panel

This is the center panel for my sofa quilt. The curved edge was created by making a strata, backing the strata with 'heat and bond', cutting the curves with the  24 inch Leaves Galore Ruler, and fusing the border to the background panel.

Ultimately, there will be applique filling in the center strip. I have some burgandys and gold to use in the applique.  I have some teal thread to top stitch the border strip down.  Do you think I should give the curved edge a finished look with bias tape?

I am getting anxious to get this quilt put together.

  1. No I don't think you should use bias to finish off the curves. It looks beautiful the way it is, ithink it is going to be gorgeous.

  2. Thanks, Nan. I appreciate your opinion. Tomorrow afternoon I hope to begin quilting the other panels of the sofa quilt. I am just in the mood. :D

  3. I like the curves as is too, but I guess it would depend on the applique.

  5. Wow, that is going to be fantastic when you are done. I do like the look of a 1/4 bias on the curves, but yours look so nice as is. Are the edges turned under or are they raw edge? Sometime people still turn the edges before they fuse. Also you might want to take a 5 in square fused fabric piece and throw it in the wash. Then you can see how it will feel after washing to determine if you like the feel. My experience has been that the fusible softens up after a few washings. Can't wait to see what you are doing with it. Hope you're feeling better.
