Scraphappy Saturday - January Blues

I spent an evening sorting my scrap bin of blues, trying to make sense of it....a basket for tiny pieces, a basket for little logs, a basket for strips and a basket for larger pieces.  I thought this organization would help me make some blocks without spending so much time digging through the bin.

I decided to make some of the blocks that Angela at Soscrappy is showcasing for the RSC14 challenge this year.  I also decided to make a row quilt this year, so I made 8 rail fence blocks and sewed them into a row ........ there, I can't change my mind now.

So this month, the rainbow color is blue, bright blue and dark blue.  I stretched the rule just a tad and used a contrasting lighter blue too.  Angela is pretty lenient about sticking to the rules.  Thanks. lol

I still haven't trained my mindset that it is okay to incorporate another color in with the color of the month.  I've saved so many wonderful examples of how to use your scraps on my pinterest page, but isn't it truly difficult to narrow it down.

I am linking up with Angela over at Soscrappy where you can see what other creative quilters are doing with their scraps.

  1. I am pretty lenient with the rules. I've been using lighter blues as well, because blocks with no contrast just don't work. A row quilt -- what a great idea! It will use up so many more scraps than just one block at a time. How to sort the scraps is an ongoing process without a right answer, in the end, it is different for every quilter. Good luck finding what works for you.

  11. Great thinking! It will be fun to select a different block for the colour of the month and watch the rows grow and grow. You'll have to let us know how the sorting strategy worked. My sorting starts out well and then reverts to a jumble as I use them for projects. It's a never ending battle.

  12. Love your row quilt. I'm using lighter colors too. Sneaking in a little white as well- I'm a rule breaker!

  14. This looks great! I am doing a row of chevrons this year... I like the idea of having more of the assembly done as I go. Less decisions later too!
