Quilts 4 Kids # ? Oct 2020

I lost track of my number of quilts 4 kids.  My record keeping has been sliding behind this year.  Not for lack of time, maybe ambition or accountability.

I was anxious to try out a new set of quilting rulers, so I went to work on this kit that was cut way back in winter of 2018.  I do not find it pretty, especially for a child, so I will toss it in the back of the car for emergency.

I chose 2 browns  and a green /brown print because it seemed to be all I had to blend with the fleece backing, which is a green army camouflage. It measures 42 x 48.

and here is the back

Charmed, I'm Sure

This was a Stashbuster challenge a few years back,  to turn your collection of charm squares into a finished project.  I had a small collection of  3-1/2 inch squares, so I raided the scrap bins and made lots more 3-1/2 inch squares.  I thought I would take the easy route and make it D9P style to cut, then set on point.  Well, dont look for the areas where they didnt meet up properly.

So I got the top finished, backed it with a wide backing fabric and used Hobbs 80/20 fusible to sandwich the quilt  Then hung it over a hanger which stayed in the laundry room for ........ ?  at least a couple years.

When I set about to quilt it, none of the batting was fused properly.  So I had to pin baste everything together.  It is all FMQ with So Fine thread on top and bottom line in the bobbin.  It came out very nice and I really like this scrappy quilt.  It finished at 58 by 68.

and here is the back, a flowery print on white.....

9 Patchalong with Natalia Bonner

Natalia Bonner has been hosting another great quilt along this month.  Her video for the last block will be released tomorrow,  but I needed to clear some space for a new quilt along which starts today,  so  I pushed ahead with the last block and finished the quilt this weekend.

It measures 42 x 54,  has a cotton batting and fleece print for the back.  I've been using a new sit-down machine but for some reason the fleece backing was not moving freely for me.  It's all FMQ and some ruler work, of course. I used So Fine thread on top and Bottom Line in the bobbin on this one.  Not getting good photos lately.

and here is the backing....................

Alabama Rambler rev.

This quilt is now finished.  It was started  way back   HERE  .  The top was ready in May, 2019, pin basted, then sat on a shelf waiting for attention.  I'm glad I waited because I have grown so much with my FMQ in the past year.  Here  is how it came to be called Alabama Rambler rev.

I had fun ruler quilting this one.  It measures 51 inches square and will be for a young child.  I guess it has to be for a girl since the backing is a flowery print.  It has the nicest poly batt with just the right amount of puff.

I quilted different motifs for each color,  an 8-pt  star in the purple squares, extending to the white triangles,  a different 8 - pt star in the white squares,  arcs around the yellow triangles and some dot to dot in the aqua.  This one made me think of the 3 bears,  it wasn't quilted too little,  or too much,   just right.

My Continuum Quilt

This project was started July 2019.  It is a design by Leonie West of Westalee Design.  She calls it the Continuum Quilt.  It finished at 78 x 86 , totally ruler quilted on my sit down LA .  It is a double sided design, cream on the top and browns on the back.  I had a difficult time getting a good photo, needing 2 tall people here at the same time.  The sun was also fighting the pic, so I was waiting for opportunity for better photo, but that didn't happen,  so here it is, finished last weekend.

It has high loft poly batting,  light gold Omni thread on top and Patriotic Gold Glide thread on the back.  I did a two sided color binding to match each side.

and here is the backside.  The browns are darker in real life with alot of gold elements in the fabrics.  The sun is messing with the tones.

I've been busy making 400 masks for the local school system,  then finishing this quilt, so up to now my blog has been a bit quiet.  But I'm ready to be off and running now ...........
