RSC16 Oranges - Bearpaws

Just getting into my orange challenge.  Here is the bearpaw block in all it's glory.

I pulled the prior monthly bearpaw blocks out of their box to get a group photo.  The lighting wasn't right and so the photo is not very flattering.

That's the best I can do for today  and so I'm joining these great linky parties.  Visit there to see what other great quilters are creating today.

CCQ # 30 - Baby Bargello

My 2nd finish this week is this little quilt I call the Baby Bargello.  It was quick, slick & easy.  I must make more.  You will find the free pattern here; scroll down to  "KISS"  aka  Keep It Simply Strippie  http://sewpreetiquilts.blogspot.com/2016/02/craftsy-sweetens-up-my-life-blog-hop.html

It measures 41 x 49.  You could easily make it larger by adding more beginning strips  or borders.  I backed it with a soft green print fleece.

CCQ # 29 - 4 Patch Trip

I started this quilt top at our guild retreat last month.  It hung around here unfinished for a couple weeks.  Now trying to finish up loose ends of projects --- which could take all year.  I started with what was right in sight.

This little quilt measures 44 x 60.  I backed it with a light gray fleece and quilted with a soft, slightly curvy crosshatch lines.  Just finished the binding and it's ready for the washer.

Be sure to visit these great link - ups to see what other creative quilters are working on this week.

Vintage Blooms - Jan Feb Mar blocks

I'm caught up again on the vintage bloom blocks.  If you're interested in this project, you'll find a link to  Gay's free pattern in my left sidebar.  I've lost some points in this last set of blocks.  I have to turn my head and motor onward.   After all,  I'm  one -third  done with the blocks now, plus I have all the square parts to the remaining 21 blocks already cut out.

RSC16 Purples 2

Now a chance to share all my  purple accomplishments this month.   First up, is the butterfly row for the sampler quilt.  I didn't know where to put the yellow, so I put it in place of the white background. Since I lengthened the quilt by an extra 9" block, I made 13 butterflies and used a quarter inch spacer between each block to get the length I needed.  You can visit my  RSC16 Sampler page  to see all the rows together.

Next up is the crayon quilt.  This photo shows all 3 months together.  So far,  48" long before borders.

I think I already shared the purple bear paw block.   I missed getting a photo of the 3 bear paws together so will have to catch up with that pic next month.

Finally,  the modified indian hatchet block.  The blocks were so striking together, it kept nagging at   me to make it bed sized.  So this past week I made 6 more blocks in each color to bring the length to 84 inches.  That is 14 blocks per row.  Here is a photo showing a partial clip of the rows.  I may have to keep this one.  You can see the progression of these projects on my  RSC16 Scrapbusters  page.

I'm linking up with Angela at Soscrappy today  and Sunday afternoon, I will be linking up with Cynthia for Oh Scrap.  Be sure to visit these sites to see what other quilters are creating today.

Vintage Blooms - Jan & Feb blocks

I've finished the February blocks for my Vintage Bloom BOM offered by Gay at Sentimental Stitches.  It takes a set of 4 blocks together to see the full effect of the secondary designs.  I used 3 strands of floss and very tiny stitches to help the embroidery stand out.  I'm pretty sure I'll be keeping this one.

Our guild retreat is coming up this weekend.  I plan to be sewing lots of triangle sets to have them ready for assembly as the embroidery blocks are released each month.

RSC16 - Purples

While waiting for the sampler block to be announced,  I went ahead and made up the bear paw block in purples.  I don't have alot of purples in scraps or yardage, so I hesitate to go too far with the alternate RSC plans, until I'm sure I have the sampler blocks covered.  Gee I'd hate to have to go buy some purples.  lol  Truly, I hope to squeeze thru the month with what I have on hand.

RSC15 Sampler - a Fine Finish

This was a sampler project initiated by Angela of SoScrappy.  It is the Rainbow Scrap Challenge 2015 Sampler.  Everything except background is from the scrap bins.  She provided instructions for all the sampler blocks and the main Star block    HERE .

The project is made from 25 star sampler blocks  and 24  connector blocks.  I wanted a nice flow to finish  the design  edge,  so I imported the basic photo into EQ, then played around a bit..... okay, a lot.  I was so happy with the border finish and so inspired to get the quilt together.

These are 12" blocks.  This quilt finishes at 108" x 108".  I work on a DSM in a somewhat small space, and so, sadly, I took the easy road in quilting it.  It has Hobbs 80/20 batting and legacy muslin on the back.  A quilt this large is a huge stretch for me.  I persevered and am so happy it is a finish.

RSC15 Sampler

I love these rainbow scrap challenges.  I am predicting more pretty creations in 2016.

RSC16 Browns - Part 2

Today rounds up the remainder of my brown scraps.  I have so little browns left now.    Here is my adopted version of the indian hatchet block....Jan and Feb rows together.

and here is the crayon rows together............

both rows are 48 inches long.  If I decide to make the indian hatchet quilt longer, it is easy to add more blocks before the rows are sewn together.  It may become a bed quilt.

The remaining scraps were pieced into large crumb blocks - excess of 8".  They are intended for hot pads  AND  practice for easy FMQ.  I am a totally walking foot quilter, but I want to play a bit and it's okay when they'll be badly quilted.

I did a thorough job with the browns this month.  I wonder what color is on tap for March?  I'm linking up with Angela at Soscrappy  and on Sunday with Cynthia for Oh Scrap.  Please visit these sites to see what everyone else has done with their brown scraps.

CCQ #28 - Ladybug Wings

I had pieces leftover from my last project, Ladybugs.  I thought to design a baby quilt around the leftovers- strips from stripsets and a strip of the ladybug fabric.  I thought I was working along quite nicely,  went to bed last night with it all quilted, just waiting for the binding.  Saw it this morning and it was fright - full of orange.  The navy binding toned that down some, but not enough.  I sure hope it doesn't make some poor infant cross-eyed.  It measures 38 x 38.

I'm adding this to my CCQ page which is a collection of  my donation quilts.

I'm linking up with  Michelle for Lets Make Baby Quilts   and  Lisa in Port Hope for TGIFF.

CCQ # 27 - Ladybugs

I pulled out a lonely piece of ladybug fabric and told myself I could work it into a quilt.  It wasn't a very big piece, so I made some stripsets, subcut them, swapped and flipped the pieces and ended up with this.  I can't think of a catchy name, so I'm just calling it Ladybugs.  It measures  48 x 54.  I guess it falls into the toddler category. I will give it to my guild for donation.

I get to add this to my CCQ's  (Charity/Child Comfort Quilt)  page.

16 Patch Pink Rails

I set out to make a baby quilt set.  My latest habit is to make a 40" square baby quilt for infant which can be used over car seats and carriers later and a larger, toddler side quilt for cuddling and using for a play mat.  I got the top pieced Monday.  Tuesday is for quilting.  I also have the 40" square top pieced and waiting for quilting.  Will show that later.

You can find the pattern here:  Obviously it is an easy one, sew fun.

RSC16 - Browns

The first pic shows my rows for the sampler quilt.  I made my blue row with 9 blocks, 81 inches. In keeping with the 81 inch length for the brown row, I made 13 - 6" blocks plus a half block.  I altered my block style slightly to accommodate the little pink corner squares.  I like how it looks.  I love the splash of adding the accent color.

I also got the brown bear paw block done.  Here is a pic of the first two blocks together.

I've been revamping some of my blog pages.  I'll be collecting photos for these projects there.

Nap in a Bag

Here is a worthy afternoon project -  a nap in a bag.  I needed a birthday present for a 3 year old for this saturday.  A piece of fleece and some pretty cotton made it all come together.  Actually, I made 2 sets.  I have one in reserve.  lol  I found the free project here: http://www.sew4home.com/projects/bed-linens/nap-bag-blanket-pillow-matching-bag.  This file is quite lengthy with detailed photos for instructions, so I typed up my own 'condensed' version which should make it quick work for the next set I make.

RSC16 - Blues 2

Here is a photo of my design wall today.  January is the month of new starts.  This photo shows the beginnings of 6 quilts.  I shouldn't be proud.  LOL   4 of the new projects will be from the scrap bins.  I have the column sampler row in the far left, then what I call the indian hatchet,  then the crayon quilt  and finally the bear paw.

Maybe I over did it this year.   Last year I only made the sampler.  BTW, I'm still stitching down the binding on that one.......... nearly finished.

The seminole band No. 1 comes next.  This is a new project at Morning Glory Designs.

Then just this week someone steered me to the Vintage Blooms BOM at Sentimental Stitches.  Since it had some embroidery, I couldn't resist.'

I think that is enough new starts for me!  I'm linking up with Angela at Soscrappy.

RSC16 Sampler - Blues

Kicking off the new year with a new scrappy sampler hosted by Angela at SoScrappy.  January's color is blues and she picked a pretty star block to showcase the blues.  This year we're adding a splash of a 2nd color, a great way to perk up the blocks.  Here is my batch.

DH really liked this block.  I took much fuss while picking out the fabric combos and tried not to have too many repeats.  I'm linking up with Angela at Soscrappy today where you can see what everyone is making with their blue scraps this week.

Live Simply plus State of the Stash Report

First up,  I'll share  a photo of my very first cross stitch project.  There are 4 cross stitch samplers I want to make.  I'm not sure if I'll frame them individually or as a collage.  Thankfully, decisions are not necessary yet.

Now on to my  first annual  ' State of the Stash'  report.

                   2015  State of the Stash

Yardage  OUT  in finished items .........................    99  yards
Yardage  OUT  in donations ..................................  73  yards
                                                                                 _________
TOTAL  yardage out                              =   172 yards

Yardage  IN by purchase or other acquisition.......  66  yards
                                                                                _________

TOTAL  Net  yardage   OUT .........................   106  yards
                                                                                ========

Summary:  even tho I am 106 yards lighter,   I do declare alot of  'nearly finished' quilts this year, which should help my numbers soar in 2016, if  when I finish them.

I recently finished this quilt and just got a photo of it.  It was created around a batch of orphan blocks that were donated to the quilt club.  It measures a hefty 81 x 97...... a nice comfort for a needy person.   Our club uses all donated fabrics into quilts for several organizations who puts them back out into the community.

I was recently gifted with these 2 children- size panels.  I backed them with fleece and quilted them up in a jiffy.  Each one measures about 44 x 33.  They will be donated to the guild for our children's ward hospital mission.

I'm adding these to my CCQ page which showcases many charity/children comfort quilts I've been able to make for others.

I'm linking up with Judy at Patchwork Times
