Americana QAL Row 3

I stitched up Row 3 yesterday.  It's a time eater to rummage thru scraps to find just the right pieces and try to make them all different.  To top it off, I pulled out a lovely FQ for the background, started cutting and sewing, then remembered that it needed one half yard for background.  Oops, had to improvise, again.  But it's all done, except for stitching down the fusible applique and adding some patriotic star buttons, just for fun.

Thankfully, Deanna used a multitude of photos in the instructions or I never would have gotten them sewn together correctly.  You can read all about this project by clicking the Americana Row QAL button in my left sidebar.

Road to Round Rock - finished.

This quilt pattern was a free offering from Judy L. of Patchwork Times  back in February, 2013.  You will find her instruction steps here :   http://www.patchworktimes.com/2013/02/18/new-quilt-along/

I chose to make it with patriotic colors.  It had been waiting for a finished binding for a while.  Because of it's size, I had a LA from my guild quilt it up for me.  Actually, it was a barter.  I made her a 50" round quilted spiral tree skirt in exchange for her quilting.  I did much more labor, I assure you. LOL

This quilt is 62 x 78.  I did a slightly different border treatment.  There is not  a label yet since I'm not sure  where it will be gifted.  This is also a UFO finish and used at least 8 yards of fabric!  YAY!

Today   I'm linking up with                Judy L. at Patchwork Times
and   Tuesday linking up with           Freemotion by the River
 and                                                    Quilt Story.

July's W.I.P.'s

The blog has been quiet, but I have not.  I've been working on school book bags for 2nd graders, veterans quilts for a local rehab for veterans home, grocery bags and purse sets for church fundraiser quickly coming up in the fall;  and I tossed in some quick projects for myself.

I was committed to my bom's;  RSC15 Sampler, Cozy Afternoon, Keys to Contentment, Americana Row QAL and barely got one block in time for the Spring Row QAL.  as I decided to make time for that yesterday!  The button on the left sidebar will take you to the details of this project.

Here is the July block for Keys to Contentment.  You can see all the other blocks for this project HERE.

and .................  I finished my Road to Round Rock quilt.  Pictures soon.

I hope you had a great month of July.  Thanks so much for stopping by.

Cozy Afternoon QAL Block 3

I must be aiming for a red rasberry monochromatic quilt with this project.  Here is block 3 and I must say the embroidery gets done far too quickly.  Thankfully I have other handwork waiting for attention.

If you want to join in on this quilt along, just click on the button on my left sidebar.  It will take you to the sign-up page.  Jacquelynne is offering this pattern to appeal to all tastes, applique, piecing and embroidery.  There is also a pinterest page where everyone can show off their blocks.

Americana QAL - Row # 1

I've spent a part of the last several days working on Row 1 of the Americana Row QAL.  It has 8 star blocks at 6 inches with spacers.  The entire row measures 62-1/2 inches long.

I substituted a Carol Doak star block in place of the original pattern because it was so easy to make in 4 parts.  Here is the row in 2 sections.

Last week I made up Row 2.  You can see it  HERE .  If you're interested in joining this QAL, click on the image on the left sidebar to take you to the contact info.

Americana QAL - Row 2

It's July!  When did that happen?  Some folks think they're over-achievers when they wish to add 3 new BOM's to their list.  Well, aren't they gullible! lol   Why do designers come out with all these new projects in the middle of the year, anyway?

Did you notice the new QAL buttons on the left sidebar?  I think bom are easy to do because you can make one small unit a month and it feels like accomplishment.

Today I'll showcase Row 2 of the Americana Row QAL.  It's not too late to sign up.  It just started this month.  Just click the button to go to the Intro.  Come on .... you can be gullible with me please.

This row could have been simple, but I had to fussy cut and piece units for the flag stripes. I also made every block with a different fabric, except the stripes, of course.  This row is  5-1/2" x 62-1/2".

Deana of Dreamworthy Quilts wrote the pattern files for the Americana Row quilt.  The instructions are awesome!  great diagrams, charts to organize cutting measurements, step-by-step, a hand-holding pattern.  Rows 1 and 2 were released together, so you are not behind.  I think I'll work on Row 1 now.

Have a great day and thanks so much for stopping by!

Cozy Afternoon QAL - Block 1 & 2

I enjoy hand stitching in the evenings.  I am following along with Jacquelynne Steves new quilt-along, "Cozy Afternoon".  It is not too late to sign up. Just click on the project icon in the left sidebar.

Here are my blocks 1 and 2.  I decided to go monochromatic, it is an unusual tone of fabric, I'd call it rasberry red.  I will probably alter the layout slightly, I might add more embroidered blocks or finish off the 5 blocks in a different way, I haven't decided on a finished size yet.

I'm linking up with Kelly at My Quilt Infatuation where you can see what other creative quilters are working on.

Veterans Quilt

Happy Monday!   This veterans twin size quilt has just come off my design wall. The binding wasn't finished at the time of the photo, but it is finished as of last evening.  Today it goes into the washer for final primping.

I designed it in EQ first.  The veterans home asking for bed quilts wanted  a specific plan with the cross in the center.  They will screen print prayers and messages on the cross.  The block designs and backing choices were up to each quilt maker. I'm hoping for a better photo later.

and here is the back, pieced with patriotic prints.  It's a big 70 x 90.  Simple quilting on this one as I work on a DSM and I struggle with big quilts.  But each quilt I do, I find myself making them bigger and bigger.  Some day I hope to grow up to a queen size.

Today I'm linking up with  Patchwork Times. Take a visit over there to see what other quilters have on their design wall.  You can vote for your favorite

And Tuesday, I'll be visiting .....    Freemotion By The River

Veterans Strippy

On my design wall this morning is part of a quilt in progress. I sewed all the parts this weekend, but can't fit it all on my design wall.  Now on to the assembly.  This quilt will finish at 70 x 90.

It is a special mission by the United Methodist Women's Association for a local veterans home.  They want to supply  twin size quilts for a 42 bed facility.  When the veteran leaves the home, he will take his quilt with him, so 42 quilts is just the beginning.

They ask that they all have a 7 x 9 grid with 10 inch blocks., with 7 squares in the center to be white in the shape of a cross. They will screen print special messages and prayer on the white blocks.  The remaining 56 blocks can be in any design.  I made up a few designs in EQ.  Our womens church group is also doing one and my quilt club is doing one.

Here is the EQ version:

I'm linking up with Judy at Patchwork Times.  Hop on over there to see all the wonderful projects being created by other quilters.

I'm now caught up for the moment,  anyway.  Here are my green star samplers.  I just can't imagine this quilt when it's all done.... so many scraps; how wonderful.  I also can't imagine how many other quilts are possible from the plentiful scraps in my bins.

RSC15 Sampler - Purples

Yep, the purples needed to be finished last month ..... alas, here are the star blocks.  I also have the 24 individual squares cut and set aside for the finishing steps. Sometimes I take a different route for the 6" center sampler block, which is what I did with one block here.

My green star blocks are also in progress. I hope to have them ready to share next week. All my sampler blocks are being collected on their own page  HERE .

In the meantime, I'm linking up with Angela at SoScrappy  where you'll see what else is being made from quilters' scrap bins.

Thanks to Angela for employing the easy angle and companion angle rulers in the instructions.  I really enjoy using them.  If not for this project,  I know they would have stayed on the shelf .

Pink & Purple Drunkard Path

One month last year, our bucket skill challenge was curved piecing.  I set about making drunkard path blocks for the first time.   Hmmmm,  not so difficult really........just slower going.  I chose a print for the DP blocks, then pulled yardage to compliment the print.

Actually, I set up this design in EQ first, just to see where I was going!  EQ helped me with the special sized templates for the DP block units and the borders too..... and it helped me plan the special pieced backing!  This quilt is made from 6" blocks and finishes at  64 x 72.

and here is the back ..................................................

CCQ's 18, 19 & 20

I still aim for 2 charity comfort quilts a month - most of them are baby and toddler size.  This month I thought I'd take the quick 'n easy route. ... the   Supersize 9-Patch  designed by Anita Grossman Soloman .... .

So, putting the tops together was super quick ----  the quilting took longer as I had fun with different designs with the walking foot.  These are all backed with comfy fleece, washed, and ready for gifting.

You can see all my comfort quilts on the  CCQ  page.  Thanks so much for stopping by!
